If it's a nice early one with bright window frames in a good shade it's probably either side of £20k. Pics? Who restored it?

One for sale on Cars and Classics for sale in Wimbledon. Sounds similar to the one you are interested in £16500.

Yes my Official Stalker from the TVR forum is correct. wink
What i was keen to know several things although a really beautiful car there are a number of changes from OE spec that has been done to the car.
That shade of blue was not an option in 78
Wheels are not correct but an after market set for a later model.
Interior is beautiful but a number of later model options including steering wheel.
I just wondered how these changes might effect the value of the car.
As yet i have not seen the car in the flesh as back and forth to the hospital with a terminally ill family member and its hard to get away back to London at present so would appreciate as much advice as you can give me before i make the journey.
Thank you
Andrew

Looks sharp enough. Throw away those horrid wheels and fit some 15" Fuchs or Cookies and it would look pretty cool. As you say though, it's unoriginal so will never be a collector's car. I'd want to be sure the colour change was proper - under the bonnet, in the engine bay, underneath, plus a 100k mile, 35 year old engine and box would need a careful check, but assuming that checks out then it could be a nice car around £15k.

There are plenty of good specialists in London that would inspect it for you. Chris Turner would be my choice.

Blimey, the paints the wrong colour, totally the wrong wheels, the paint has 'sunk', plus its a targa SC, and it how much?
Times must have changed

Hi Warren
Hence why i am fitting the correct wheels and re painting the car is as straight as an arrow not a flaw anywhere except those two items so fully painted and correct wheels she will be spot on.
she was blue i think minerva blue so will probably go back to original although black may be an option.

IMO, it will only have any value if it is 110% ex-factory original and perfect.

It always bothers me when an early 911 has the wrong wheels fitted. A grand sorts the wheels out but a complete and proffesional repaint is big money. Good luck and enjoy.

Hi Andrew,

Best of luck with the purchase, opinion on the Targa is really on the change for the positive after being frowned upon by many for too many years.
For what its worth (and I'm guessing you have done your homework already) is that these now/can suffer from severe rust issues, if this is not a problem on the one your purchasing then that's a major expense not to worry about.
I must admit if her original colour was Minerva Blue, she would have been a rare beasty back in the day, me thinks.
Quick question, why an SC rather than say a 964 Targa?

I fully agree hence why we will change some details the car is to be exported to be used as an every day summer car with another classic hard top as a winter car this comes in within budget and needs and with road tax there at 1500 euroes a year on a 3 ltr car and 49 euroes on this car 5 years and you have saved half the cost of the car had some fun and still have a car that is worth probably as much then as today.
I fully agree to a collector who wants to show the car its the wrong one.
A car is worth what someone is willing to pay i have been amazed what some are paying on other marks for cars way above book value.
Boy the replys are coming faster than i can type this thank you picking them up on blackberry as i type.
I think she was minerva blue and that is what she will go back to if that was her original colour she has not a bit of rust that i could find no filler no sign of accident damage and the fks are mint just not fitted yet.
Interior although not fully correct is really nice much nicer than some original worn tatty interiors i have seen.
Why a 911SC Targa well all i can say is why not?
Yes the badges have been changed to chrome as 75 spec and door handles and i think to complete the look do the mirrors to match.
No Bombs my way please wink
The Car will go to souther Ireland for my Brother when the work is done well it is Christmas and i had to find him somthing he wanted he is fed up with soap on the rope and aftershave???

Well without saying a figure what a Classic Dealer friend said it was worth taking into account what needs doing and at the same time being fair to the seller.
We all like a bargain but its always nice to feel that both parties are happy.

This. http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use... Looks like a nice Targa, seems a good price, and a latter 964 model at that.
Much more modern feel than an SC. It looks pretty much original also.....other than the cosmetics.

Oh, Happy Christmas...... just realised the time. Have a good un.

Andrew

Hi Happy Christmas
Well i was looking for the best Targa over 30 years old as the VRT is only 250 euroes when importing to Ireland on cars over 30 years also classic car road tax when over 25 years is only 49 euros also 1978 was a significant year for him so a car like 964 once imported as the VRT Tax on that car would be based on the value of the car decided by the VRT office so that would then take the car to about 27000 EUROS and 1500 A YEAR road tax and Classic Car insurace would not apply there as it needs to be over 25 years there where you can get it hear on cars over 15 years hope that answers the question.
