You're joking aren't you? I think it looks even more ugly today than the day they unveiled it lol.

New one has finally got a look that works IMHO. Still prefer a 996 or 7 GT car in the round but it's amazing how well they've done with this latest boxster.

The first thing that came into my head when I saw a 981 was "MR2 Roadster"! That's still my opinion today. Unfortunately first thoughts usually last for me.

Really loved my old Boxster S (was the last new Porsche I bought...before kids came along and found a new outlet for my hard-earned) biggrin

But I think the 981 is stunningly good looking and a big step forward from the design of the 986 cool

This is just my personal opinion as beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder biggrin

It's a reasonable comparison, but the 987 fills the gap nicely between the "Mk1" and the new Boxster. There's plenty about that are still fairly new and reasonably priced (well, compared to a decently specced new Boxster anyway), and personally, I never liked the headlights or the interior on the original car - the 987 looks that much better, the Gen2 is another subtle improvement, and the later S is plenty fast.

Why do people say this? It looks nothing at all like an MR2 Roadster!

I've never been a fan of the 'normal' Boxster, be it 986 or 987.

However, a few weeks ago you posted a pic of a white 986 and I thought then how good it looked.
As you say, pure, and devoid of any fuss.

My thoughts too. Seems to be trying too hard to be an expert and trips out all the motoring journalist phrases that we've read and heard before. At least VBH squeals a bit when she's test driving. biggrin

Well to me it did and does. I also see a little bit of Fiat Barchetta which I'm sure will really upset you wink

I'm assuming that as you say "why do people say this?", I'm not the only one?

That'll be it smile

I think the 981 is a great looking car. Just to me it isn't recognisable as a Porsche. Someone mentioned earlier about lacking Porsche-ness. I agree.

You mean industrial design like a brick as opposed to something more organic....with curves and hips biggrin

At least with the 981, it's more clear which end is the front laugh

....Hopefully I will be having a 981 two or three years down the line, I think it looks so much more purposeful than the model it replaces.....

I got a nice 986 because I didn't like the 987, style is very personal and I appreciate that I'm in the minority here. I don't think that I'll ever get any real need to sell it. There is a rawness to it that isn't present in the standard 987.

In my eyes the lines of the 986 are already making it start to look like a bit of a classic.

The 981 is today though. Very fresh, very up to the minute and with looks to die for. I'd choose it over the 991 any day. What a car.

Another vote for that. Plus I'm not a fan of the 80s Top Gear style intro music.

However, enjoyable little vid and certainly has me seriously thinking about an early Boxster - some kicking around at the £5k mark. Unfortunately, I fear it would be like my brother's '86 944; brilliant car in theory, however in practice hasn't quite lived up to everyday use.
