Why would anyone buy a 993.....
Discussion
When for the same price as a rusty heap of cr@p that has 260 hp at best, you could have a 996 C4S, 997 C2, 928 GTS, 968 CS. Having drive a 993 C2 recently, I really don't understand the fuss or the prices. Agricultural is a statement at best. Heavy heap is what the one I drove felt like. Let them rot I say, 964 is the last real hand build, air cooled 911 if that's what you like.

Must admit that although I'd have put it more diplomatically than that, I do agree.Fight!
I personally think they're the most over-rated 911 ever (RS excluded), but each to their own. 964 is the sweet spot for me.
Anything before feels a bit to old and agricultural (although I still love the looks and sounds of the earlier cars) and anything after doesn't really excite me, unless it's a special model, such as RS/GT etc.
I'm not for one minute saying the 993 is bad. I just get sick of hearing "It's the last of the air-cooled". So what.
By the way fastgerman, I think you may need to edit your fantasy garage.

I owned what seemed to be a very good late 993 C2. It was a supreme grand tourer and you could drive it all day - it was also quite brisk. But it never excited me. It was my first 911 I owned and the shortest period I have ever owned one. Not sure they are worth the money they get to me. Each to their own!
I see the OP has a 997. Wonder how much you will have lost in the time you've had it? At least there was an improvement in the quality of materials as the 996 interior is dire.
All depends what you want really. 996/7 OK for everyday use. For me a Porsche is air-cooled, hand built, quality fixings and surprisingly offers low cost motoring given the prospect of low to nil depreciation if you buy right.
Clearly there is some baiting going on here. Anyone who lists a 968 and 928 alongside the 911 model is clearly up for some sport.

Agricultural is an oft used term for air cooled 911's and is one I can understand. When I first drove one, I thought it was like an old skoda. I thought it was crap.Fight!
You have to get them into the window of operation. Above about seven tenths is where they come alive. It all begins to make sense and in my view they are far more exciting than the later cars. GT models excepted of course.
Did you really push into this 'zone'?
993 C2 owner here. Love it. Twice toured her this year. Spain, north to south, south to north. 2k miles in 10 days in temps from 18 to 38 degrees, loved every moment of it and she didn't miss a beat. Stuttgart via Reims 1.8k miles in 4 days, nearly 160 on the autobahn easily done in a twenty year old 115k mile 911 can't be bad. Stuttgart to Evesham via the nurburg in one day and could have kept on driving.
Previous Porsche, a 968CS fantastic car , broke my heart selling her, never would have if I could have afforded to have an aircooled 911 as well. But choice between the two, I'd have the 993.
Owned a 964 C2. Everyone now rants on about t his all of a sudden as being the last of the proper looking 911 shape. To me they are a very pretty 911 spoiled by heavy looking bumpers, especially from the front. Never really enjoyed mine that much. Used to be driving her thinking if I'd spent 45k on this back in 91 would I feel it was worth the money? Answer was always nope. Now I'm bit wiser and a few more Porsches, I do occasionally look at the odd 964, but always back off again, just too much nvh compared to the 993. Very old suspension setup these days. Stripping out a 964 would be fun. Biggest probs with mine was it just didn't feel fast enough.
Also had a 3.2 SSE which was a disaster, looked lovely but felt heavy to drive (but no where near as heavy as the 964) and very agricultural.
Anything before the 3.2 (had a 2.7S as well) just feels slooooow and very very agricultural, anything new and water cooled seems to me just a bit to modern and does not seem much of a sense of occasion when driving them. (Excluding the GT cars etc)
Saying that, like previous poster has stated who has bought new from 964 upwards. Probs the best Porsche is the next newer model up from the previous one, if truth be known.
EDITED Just to add, what's this about 993s being overpriced? Most old Porsche are underpriced compared to other 'Classic' cars.
Looking at classic car prices at the mo, when a TR4 that was worth 10k five years ago is now worth 20k. A lovely looking car but slow agricultural (powered by a tractor engine) pand they built thousands of em or a Mini Cooper/S of which (if memory serves they built 72000 of) are going now northwards of 25k, then any 911 is an absolute bargain in comparison IMO.

Interesting I owned a similar age 993 and it was probably one of my top 3 cars and the longest time I owned a car for !! Then had 4x996, 2x997 all sold in fairly quick succession , a 993 is probably the only 911 I would buy again.
Oh and I hated my 968 !!
Just as well we are all different
