Hello,

Just wondering if anyone here has changed from a GTS 4 to a GT3, either Gen 1 or Gen 2?

Reason for the question is that i am buying a run around for work, leaving my GTS 4 for a weekend car now, as it used to be my daily drive!

As the Porsche is going to be a weekend car, i thought maybe the GT3 would feel a bit more special then my GTS 4. Took a Gen.1 997 GT3 out today for a test drive and didnt really feel there was much point in changing if i were being honest. Also to note i wont be tracking the car at all, which i know the GT3 would stand out more!

I thought the Gen.1 997 GT3 was very willing through the gears and you can tell the handling was more focused. However if you didnt give it some past 4000 revs, i didnt think it sounded like it should do, compared to my GTS sports exhaust, which comes in more lower down in the revs.

Is the Gen.2 997 GT3 a lot more different then the Gen.1 GT3? Maybe i need to try one of these?

Thank you

Phil

1. There isn't a huge difference - it's the stiffer springing you'll notice most - but over time there are some delicious nuances that differentiate them and the brakes are much better!
2. You need to press the sport button, but the exhaust valves only open fully over 4,000rpm (hence the noise difference).
3. In terms of performance the GT3 may even be slower in road driving due to the very long gearing (2nd goes to 88mph and 3rd goes to 122mph).
4. The GT3 will probably hold it's value better over time.
5. The 2nd Generation GT3 is a lot more expensive, but it is more torquey and more powerful and it has stablity control ....
6. Have you considered a Turbo? wink

I find the RS and the 4GTS (current courtesy car) to be chalk and cheese.

There is no doubt the GTs is a very good car, but softer and less focuses in every respect. It is easier to access the performance in some ways, but when driving it the GT3 is superior, more honed, more homogenous and consistent experience.

I am in the lucky position of having a gen 2 997 GT3 as a weekend toy and my daily driver is a GTS4 - completely different cars - the 4 is a comfortable fast fun sports car -the GT3 makes you smile everytime you get in it let alone drive it -I would cheerfully change the 4 for something else when I get bored whereas I doubt you could get bored of the beast.

Thank you for the replies..

Dont get me wrong, im not knocking the Gen.1 GT3, i just thought from the 30min drive today there wasn't enough differences to change from my GTS 4.

I love the fact that in my GTS the sports exhaust comes on straight away, where in the GT3 it didnt really until we hit the 4000 and above. Didnt find the GT3 any harsher ride then my GTS but did notice the handling a lot more direct.

Maybe i need enough test drive in the Gen.1 and also the Gen.2 and be a bit more violent with them!

Thank you

Phil

PS. Sadly not into how the Turbo engines sound, but amazing speed!
