Hi all, I have booked my car in for a paint correction detail at Kds keltec after having the car valeted today which was an excellent job, following the paint correction Kelly has given two recommendations of either a Zano sealant or the g techniq sealant, has anyone had the g techniq on their car and can give me some feed back on whether it is worth the extra expense?

Hi. Kelly's done paint correction detailing on 3 cars for me, each time finishing with a GTechniq coating

I'd highly recommend it and the cost is very good value and worth every penny

If you're having a paint correction, the GTechniq will help to preserve the immaculate paint finish that Kelly achieves, and it also makes the care and maintenance of the bodywork a 1000 times easier and quicker

Had Gtechniq total surface protection applied to our new 6 series at the beginning of September - impressed so far. I used their glass sealant, C2 and shampoo myself previously but decided to get a professional to protect our new car.

From what I've read about Kelly he sounds one of the very best in the business.

Kelly and co put GTechniq on my car and it's been easy to keep looking great. No experience of anything else, but definitely nothing bad to say about GTechniq.

Anyone care to divulge approx cost of having the techniq applied?

Wouldn't mind it on the Alpina as it gets dirtier than the Spyder (and the Spyder already has supaguard on it )

Ta.

You don't need to pay for having it applied, particularly after correction.

Gtechniq.com Silo Seal C1.5 will give you 6 month protection and can be applied by anyone without any skills whatsoever. It's spray on / wipe off. 15 minutes max.

It's £20 for a 250ml bottle that will last many many applications. For glass, G5 is less than a tenner and is spray on / wipe off too.

The only time you may want a pro to apply a G sealants is if you use want C1 and G1. Neither of them are particularly necessary compared to the above.

Here's my detailingworld thread with applying EXO.

http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.p...

Took me 4 days all in all.

Early days so for. However, the car is still beading nice. Each wash since has just been a quick blast with a power washer and a dry down.

Very very good so far.

I've been dragged willingly into the obsessive world of the professional detailer and Kelly has taught me a lot

KDS apply GTechniq C1+ crystal lacquer after the paint correction work - i've watched how they apply it and it's a long laborious job. The soft pads used to apply it dry to rock hard in less than a minute or two, which is the lacquer drying to a very hard clear coating

Kelly recommends the C1.5 silo seal as an ongoing maintenance spray on top of C1+, to squirt on and wipe off every 2nd or 3rd wash. It's a really quick and easy job as you say. I read it can also be used without the C1+ crystal lacquer as a protective finish itself but imagine it's nowhere near as durable or protective as the C1+ coating, which is the service Kelly is offering to the OP I imagine

It is the c1+ that has been reccomended, after a bit of research I think I will get it done, I will post some pictures of the detail up when it's done.

C1.5 as a stand alone product will last 5/6 months and is a small fraction of the price of C1+, plus it's very easy to do at home.

As far as "protective" we enter the marketing myth area here I think. No coatings will prevent swirls, however expensive, marketed or placeboed. The only to avoid swirls is through a meticulous wash+dry routine, and even then...

If its as simple as that I may have a go.

The car in question is only 12 months old and only been polished with a bit of Autoglym SRP once, and Werkstat Acrylic once.

So to use the Silo Seal what prep would need to be done?

Depends how much time you have. If you feel the car doesn't need polishing you could simply apply a paint cleaner like Megs Crystal (Step 1) to remove all the stuff off the paint as Silo will bond better on bare paint.

If you do have more time you could decontaminate the paint with IRON-X (or equivalent iron filling remover) and then Tardis and then a quick clay prior to the above Crystal step.

I have used Gtechniq C1 twice and did it myself after watching the video, just take your time and the results are a noticeable wet shine that lasts for ages. Care must be taken to prepare the surface and clean using alcohol.
I recon it is brilliant stuff.
