I've heard the sellers are complete shysters which would ordinarily put me off straight away but I must admit this car popped up and piqued my Interest.

Why so cheap? Anyone know it's history? 3 cars in one perhaps, or have the mods been shabbily executed? On the surface it looks bloody amazing.

It's expensive for what it is. It's been lying around in the market because most don't want a car that's made to look like another. It's a 1967 2.0 coupe with a 964 body kit, 3.2 Carrera running gear and a bored engine - NOT a 964RS.

NB: Bored out cylinders are IMO a cop out of buying proper cylinders for the application and can be disastrous if not expertly done, tolerances reduced. JE pistons IMO should not be mixed with Mahle cylinders assuming it still has original cylinders - for reasons I'm more than happy to express should anyone be interested.

Save your money and buy a properly modified 964 not a hashed bitser IMO http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use...

Mind you if your taste says 'it looks bloody amazing' - each to their own.

Having in the meantime read the ad I tend to agree it looks like a bitsa. The badge is the cherry on top.

At a glance it looks ok IMO I wonder how it drives?

I was looking at this just this morning, I'm looking at getting out my Cayman and into a 964 and this one came up in a search.

It's not that bad, the wheels are ghastly but it's not bad looking for what it is....

Gents if you're serious about 964s do your homework by heading to the Rennlist 964 forum - the results are great:

Its certainly a bitsa and is garish in a bad way. BUT, there might be a decent car underneath and with some changes could be a nice motor.

I said 'might be'!

Also, that blue in the photos looks more like violet, ugh!

Yes that does look rather more the item, than the sales car in question. Will take a look over at rennlist. I don't see myself spending north of £50k for a 964 of any flavour and would probably go down the route of a well executed set of mods to a 3.2. The GT3 badge and wheels on the blue car are a little naff, but nothing that can't be changed if the rest of the car was good.

Might be up north on the weekend so may go and have nose around. Will pop findings up here if I remember smile

Hahahaha - wow, a quick Google search for the dealer in question uncovered this.

http://bbs.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-general-1/66236...

Suffice to say, I won't venture anywhere near.

My favourite quote in there "I wouldn't buy a packet of crisps from them".

Je passe.

3.0 engine on 906 cams bored out to 3.2 Litres, Weber Carburetors, JE pistons, and uprated hardware allowing a full 343Hp @ 8000rpm.
I'd take that with a pinch of salt unless the builder of that engine can convince me, and odd they don't show any pix of the engine given the claims.

For perspective, Neil Bainbridge has recently completed the build of a very special 3.0RSR that is 'only' making 330bhp: dyno-run on youtube

8000 rpm too? A little high for that motor?

I'd take more than a pinch of salt given the tales over on the 'scooby' site. An automotive engineer and a lawyer would make good companions I suspect.

Is it though? Has anyone even viewed the thing?

I'd be interests to know just what of that car is left over from a 1967 SWB. V5 only perhaps?

1967!!??

Total hotchpotch Frankenstein car for more than a decent 964.

Makes the red 964 boxsey linked to in the other thread, look like the bargain of the year, which it quite probably could be.
