Hi guys - I have just got back from Boston and saw this car (really bad photo I know) and I'm quite tempted to get my own depending on what they cost, but can't seem to work out what it is. My best guess is a 3.0 sc supersport or an early 90's 3.2 but can't be sure. Can anyone help?

Thanks
Mark

Probably a 3.0SC. It looks narrow-bodied so either the SC which were made from '77-'83, or a 3.2 Carrera which were made from '83-'89. It does have a strange front apron on though, similar to a Turbo LE item.

I think I can see a rear fog light under the bumper so that would make it an earlier car as they integrated them into the rear reflector a bit later on, so yep I'd say an SC. £15k would get you a nice one. smile

Just for information a super-sport is a wide-bodied 3.2 Carrera available from 1987-89. It isn't one of those.

Thanks marky911. Are the widebodied cars significantly more expensive than £15k for a good one?

The 3.0SC was the very first 911 I drove - I LOVED it!!!

Never drove another one for over twenty years. I think I should drive one again!

Yes, looks like a late model SC with the front wing indicator repeaters and rear fogs mounted underneath the bumper. Front spoiler is not standard. Great cars IF you can find a good one. The vast majority are unloved rust pits. £15K budget should get you a decent honest example from a reputable specialist. This is not a car to buy privately unless you really know them inside out.

Just to throw a spanner in the works .......

I had a wide bodied (M491? was the option code).
Me thinks these came out earlier in the eighties than Marky states ..... (Though I could be wrong, I usually am)somewhere around 84 - 85. ie before the rear foglamp was integrated within the rear of the car.

Now looking at that photo, it seems to have wider arches than a standard 911 to me, especially looking at the back.

Lastly I'm pretty sure you could spec a 911 wide body 3.2 without the spoiler for the US market.

So I reckon it could be an early SSE without the tail.

But then again, it may not be. biggrin

Car is a 3.2c
Not an SC as the SC never had side indicator lenses on front wings.
Isn't a wide-bodied SSE car either.

I stand corrected, funnily enough i was arguing with myself on that one.
I had a 78 model thus never had any, but obviously the ones with replacement wings
will have inherited them, good call sir!

From that photo alone we may never know for sure exactly which model it is. However, if the OP wants to get himself a car that looks like that he could search for an SC (late one for black window trim) or any 3.2 - most of either type will have a rear spoiler but that can be removed for a modest cost if preferred. If he really wants the front chin thing then he'll probably to have to source one and add it, but maybe it wasn't something he noticed either way when the car caught his eye.

The same advice would apply when looking for either model - buy the best you can afford and get it checked out by someone that knows them well, follow their advice, negotiate accordingly (or walk away if it's not good enough), buy it and enjoy it drivingbiggrin

Is it? Even the front arches look a little flared, plus the OP thought maybe turbo bodied. Saying that, I'm trying to see it on an iPhone

Definitely standard "narrow" body like mine below. SC/C3.2 standard wheelarches look quite flared compared to the earlier narrow-bodied cars. Turbo/SSE arches are a LOT more pronounced front and rear and unmistakable as such.

Compared to widebody Turbo/SSE

Beat me to it. Side indicators are one of the giveaways of a later model SC like my '82 car. But you do often see them on earlier cars too as replacements.
