Did anybody see the Autocar review of the 991C2S, Boxster S and Cayman R?

It made for some interesting reading but the overall winner (GT86) although no great surprise wasn't something that I think I could live with day to day, even if I loved it on occasion.

I was very surprised that they thought that the Cayman R was the best Porsche overall though.

It would seem that the GT86 is going to be a very good car indeed and might be some real competition for our cars in the market place - however, I'm not sure I'd want to drive a car manafactured by the same people that make the local mini cab firms cars.........Snob, probably?bounce

I don't care how good or otherwise the GT-86 is, it was always conceptualized as a car that was supposed to represent value in the sector, and it just doesn't.

Cayman R being the best Porsche is a no-brainer, this coming from a 991 owner.

actually, that's not true. The CR is very adjustable at road speeds and you will also find that the Gt86 is surprisingly grippy for it's skinny low grip tires. Both share the same delicious lightweight feeling. At half the price of a CR, it represents a lot of value for money. I bet if you test drive one (like I did), you'd be amazed at how together the car feels. Something I can never say of ANY current BMW, Mercedes or Audi.

Whilst I agree with this, Autocar have been incredibly supportive of the new 991. It's their most highly-rated sports car, so I was pretty sure that the 991 would be top of that triumverate, not the CR - even if I personally agree that it's an awesome car wink

why? that's only of interest if you're racing. Not relevant at all to having fun, which is what a driver's car should be about.

Having said that though, whilst I love the GT86 concept, I think it's too slow to be a great driver's car. I have to try one though, it does seem like good value for money!

the CR and GT86 is all about fun. not lap times, grunt or quarter mile times.

i still think everyone needs to try the high HP thingy. once you get over it, you can then explore the balance that these cars provide. NB: some people never get over the HP/torque thingy though and on highways and heavily trafficked roads, HP/torque is indeed more fun than either car. But that's like a pizza is better than a slice of plain bread; Both look rubbish compared to a proper home-cooked meal.

excuse my bad analogy.

GT86 concept will hold you for about a week while you drift it about, then it will just feel a cheap under powered car.

jurno's love it because it's not theirs, i doubt any of the jurno's will buy one lol

over rated imo.

+1...

it doesn't need much more. I think a 2.2 NA would be perfect with 20 or 30hp more.

Mr Demon is a drag racer in disguise so he tends to be biased against such things
