996 letting water into footwell. help?
Discussion
Hi everyone.
My 2001 996 turbo is letting water into both the passenger and driver footwell. On both sides it is towards the centre of the car only. The water is clean.
Few thoughts..
Drain lines.
Sunroof drains
Air/con (working fine)
Any help as I try to locate the leak this weekend. Any links to any technical sites, diagrams and instruction on cleaning the lines would be appreciated.
Anybody had similar problem?
Cheers

Drain holes can become blocked. Remove the covers either side of the battery and you should be able to see them.
+1 You may be surprised just how many leaves can collect there. There are rubber drain tubes that get blocked and cause a pool of water to collect in the front scuttle area. Its also known that water can damage the alarm module located in the same place so its well worth checking out.

Under the chassis plate. There is a rubber bung through which goes 3 sets of cables.
Water sits in the cut out for this round rubber bung. Is this a design fault or should there be a minute drain hole running from this.?
Sorry my tech explanation ain't so great.
Yours flummoxed for now,

I had this extensively. Was the door seals under the door cards. In the 996, if its raining, at speed, there is outside pressure to force plenty of water onto the inner door face, then it leaks indoors if the seal is bad. As they are 40 squid each, first try bathroom sealer.... Note also the seals on the door mirror mount leak as well!!!
