Took my CR up to north and mid-Wales on Monday and Tuesday of this week. Few patches of rain, strong wind and leaf litter made forested areas a little more interesting in the corners (disregarding blown over trees) but the weather was really good. It was also apparently 'National Verge Cutting Day' in Wales and I don't think I've ever seen so many tractors trimming hedge rows and verges so the car does have a green patina.

I basically crossed into Wales over the Severn and meandered West through Brecon Beacons, I then went back on myself up towards Welsh Pool on the A470 and then through Snowdonia up to Conwy with quite a few B road detours. Back down I did mostly B-roads, A470 and off to Bala on the A494 and then the EVO triangle. At EVO, I got caught up in a group from Germany who seemed to be on a luxo barge expedition - M5, 4 Panas (all GTS), XK RS, 2 Bentleys and a Rolls drop top.

Many thanks to those in the group who contributed suggestions for my route.

Great pictures. It is just amazing fun isn't it?

I got up early on Saturday morning and drove M6, M56 then Ruthin, B5105 skirting around the Clocaenog Forest, A5 to Betws-y-Coed for a quick coffee, back to Pentrefoelas for a lap of the Evo Triangle then A5, A494 back to Ruthin and then home for 10.30am and a well earned bacon buttie!

Roads were a bit damp but it was bloody lovely first thing in the morning with no traffic to speak of at any time (other than a little convoy on the M6 presumably led by Blackpool Lad off here in his blue and red GT3RS?)

Worst thing about trips like these is mustering the self discipline to stop to take photos.

I'd give my left nut to be able to just do that on a Saturday morning. I'm in East London and it takes me about 45 - 60 minutes to clear the city to get on to the M4. That said, I do have some good routes but Wales and Scotland are really special.

Looks lovely, any chance of posting your route? I don't live far from there so may be able to do it as a day trip....
Yeah no worries. I ended up doing it old skool and used a map and then colour coded the good routes green, ok routes amber and bad routes in red. I aim to have comprehensive coverage of the whole of Wales in the next year or so. And yes, I'm OCD. :-)

Will put the route into Google and share a link unless you'd prefer a scan of the road atlas?

Sorry, I failed miserably.

One of the few benefits of living near Preston is easy access to various motorway networks out of here!

Next time I fancy the detour to Ffestiniog and back as well. Lovely part of the world to drive around.

I find those roads just as enjoyable to look at as the car - and I love the car.
Did you start from London? Stay over in Wales?
Just you and the drive - good for you.

I'm jealous.

Living to the east of the Midlands means a fairly long journey to get to those sort of roads frown

I really need/fancy a day like that though......

Very therapeutic it has to be said.

Do a detour on the way to Oulton on 13th? Unless you've signed up properly of course...

I posted the pics to maybe inspire others to do the same. It's too easy to find excuses not to do these trips and those roads are crying out to be driven.

I started in East London at 5am on Monday morning and drove for about 20-25 hours by the time I got home. Stayed over at The Groes Inn which was good and then departed Tuesday morning heading North to Conwy Bay and then south from there.

It could have been me but I am sure I would have spotted a blue CR. Think the only CR I have seen on the road is a Peridot Green in Highgate.

Maybe do a meet up and go for a blast out Cambridge way after Winter? Think there is another CR owner in East London. A convoy of CRs would be a beautiful thing. smile

I remember commenting on the OP.

Good stuff, looks like you found some great roads. Nice pics, thanks for sharing. Oh and the Groes Inn does a mean pint of ale smile
