Cracked Screen - Can I insist OPC reair?
Discussion
Hi,
As the title states; I want to ensure that I get a genuine Porsche part and not a patent part. So can I insist that my local PC does the repair? Or will they get some franchised partner eg Autoglass do it? FYI I'm with Aviva. Has anyone experienced resistance/problems with them?

Had a policy with Admiral who put me in contact with Auto Windscreens. They ordered a genuine Porsche Screen (saw the box it came in) but messed up the install (seal on the top of the windscreen didn't sit correctly and antenna for GPS wasn't connected resulting in the car sailing somewhere off Calais!)
They fitted it correctly the second time round though at their expense and were most apologetic.
If your policy doesn't permit you to use an OPC, try to get some assurance that they'll put an experienced fitter on the job and not Lance the apprentice/tea boy :-). Have a good look at the way it's currently fitted and don't hesitate to reject the job if it doesn't look right.
All the best.

So simply query their use of the term "suitable". Given the Porsche attitude to non-OEM parts for things like stereos, batteries and non-mechanical parts, ask your insurer if they are happy to take on the bumper to bumper warranty that they will void by fitting a non-OEM windscreen that forms part of the chassis structure.
Oh, and please stop signing your posts.

If you have to use Autoglass then get a cash settlement and get Glassman to fit the screen for you even if it costs you a little more. Done a fantastic job on my 993 Turbo. Didn't realise how much ithe old one creaked until the new one was in there.
Some insurers may be funny, I am with RSA under a classic car policy and it was all covered.

As Nick has suggested speak to Glassman on here. Knows his ways around Porsche cars and has a lot of happy customers

All three of my policies (911,BMW and VW) are with Aviva via Marsh, who are simply the broker.
I suffered damaged screens on both the VW and 911. Spoke to Marsh and said whilst happy to have AG for theVW I preferred to get the 911 done by a specialist.
I was told "no problem, we will arrange AG for the VW, you get the 911 done where you want and send us the bill. Aviva will then refund the full amount less the £70 excess".
AG came and did the VW and, to be fair, the guy did a good job. I wouldn't have minded that guy doing the 911.
Took the 911 to Paragon who arranged for a Porsche screen to be fitted. I paid their bill for £600+. E mailed a copy of the invoice to Marsh.
Within a week I had a cheque from Aviva for the full amount less £70.
So it all worked for me.

Did a GT3 last week on Aviva. The guy is on 911UK and started the ball rolling by nominated his preferred supplier. It took about ten days to organise but for the large part of it, the liaison was off sick.
Am with aviva and need my 993 c2s done. It is at reading now and backin a week. Shall we talk?Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
