Want to get a used hardtop for the 2006 997 Carrera. Can any one reccomend any stockists in the UK or Europe who will be likely to have some used ones for sale ?

I'd keep an eye out on eBay, just respray if necessary if you can get one at a good price.

I had a hardtop for both my E46 M3 and the 996 C4S - used a handful of times on the M3 and only once on the 996 ( to take pictures when I sold it ! )

I would not bother (unless you live in northern Sweden or somewhere like that). The insulation of the convertible roof is far good enough against noise and temperature and with the hardtop you get squeaks and rattle and in some cases even water intrusion. Go to the OPC. They have tons of hardtops that customers leave there and never collect. I used my hardtop the day I got the car and the day I sold it. Also you need two persons to lift it in place and there is a big chance that you scratch the paintwork.

I remember to talking to OPC West London about hard-tops and they had a mountain of them stored on behalf of customers that never came to collect them. If I remember rightly the early 997s cabrios were delivered with hard-tops as standard - hence the pile up.

They will respray to any colour also for a price.

Just haggle hard on the price smile

IIRC 996 and 997 hardtops are interchangeable, no?

In which case eGay is your best bet.

May I ask why you've decided against the 996 hardtop? I was considering getting one, and haven't seen any reason yet not to.

I have numerous posts in forum about using the 996 hardtop on a 997 with the appropriate connector ( OEM porsche parts ) however it seems that some people had problmes with the 996 hardtop scratching painted parts of the 997 body etc , i have read at least 2-3 cases of this and i rpefer to pay a few hundred more than take any risks. I asked a Porscher specialist and said with the proper connecting parts it should be ok but i still have my reservations for the 996 ht on a 997. Given i will buy it from abroad i dont think is worth the risk . If i was still in the UK i would get a 996 ( pick up ) for the small cost they are sold for and try it out , but not here ...
