996 Turbo - Milltek Exhaust & remap
Discussion
Well I've finally bitten the bullet and had them done
Milltek (100 CEL) sports exhaust and remap carried out by AMD just down the road in West Thurrock (next door to Lakeside shopping centre).
Drove the car back Monday evening and not really had the chance to get out for a proper hoon yet but first impressions -
Exhaust - not noticeably louder on normal chat till you floor it. Looks nice underneath (stainless steel) but stock tips now protrude further!
Remap - car was pdq before but now fdq
Maximum boost before remap was
0.7 - 0.8, now boosts to 1.0!
AMD reckon that remap with exhaust will be good for extra 50-60 bhp and will have shaved anything up to .75 second off 0-60 (car's a tiptonic)!!
One thing I forgot to do was ask for the stock exhaust they took off. They've still got it but is it worth collecting? 42k miles on it, thinking it might just be worth keeping, or may even recover some of my outlay? What do you guys reckon?

How much did all that set you back if you don't mind me asking?
And yes. I would definitely reclaim the old one. It is yours! A bit cheeky of them not to remind you! You never know when or what for you might need it!
Just over £3k in total, but one of the probes had to be replaced which added circa £100 to the bill. AMD are still doing special offer 1/2 price on remap when done in conjunction with fitting of Milltek exhaust. The bill also included changing the standard Bosch recirc valves (£100 x 2) to an up-rated version which I am informed are stronger more reliable than the original and can hold the stronger boost better. And yes. with a map and exhaust it should be night and day.
The exhaust is mainly there for sound and aids with top end rev range grunt/bhp.
the map is the main mod - mine was boosting 0.6bar before and now around 1bar and its savage....take it for a good blast and you'll love it. Mine was mapped by wayne schofield but any decent map should give the same results on an otherwise standard car.
you should be making circa 500ft/lbs of torque now which is ALOT
Im thinking of the milltek exhaust as its reasonably priced.

Hi sounds good to me. What are the modified Bosch recirc valves? I have a 996 remaped to 500bhp and holds 1.0 bar and sometimes 1.1 bar!
Quote below what AMD said about the recirc valves:-"Another good upgrade to carry out in conjunction with the exhaust and remap is to change the standard Bosch recirc valves to an up-rated version which is stronger than the original and can hold the stronger boost better, it is also more reliable than the standard item."
Someone with a bit more technical knowledge might be able to expand better on what they do specifically

For anyone thinking of having the upgrades done but worried about insurance, I was dreading telling mine, expecting a big hike in my premium! Phoned Admiral - bit of a mission trying to explain to Saj in the Indian call centre what a remap involved
After some faffing & deliberation, (me hanging on with baited breath) he came back - £20.83 for rest of year - result!!!

I would ask for the original back before it pops up on eBay
A used 996 Turbo exhaust does not have a great used value or desireability. It is also way too big to fit in a 996. Generally they lay around at the tuners until the owners get a van or estate to come collect.

Get a 1000 miles on that Miltek and it will get louder. Its been posted before( by me) the reason they get louder. To cut a long story short they wrap a portion of the inside tube with wire wool and very little of it. It must be enought for them to say its a legal quiet system. Within 1k ota the wool will disappear, I know because I used a borescope to see inside when it started to get louder on my car and it will......not massively but nicely

Thanks Frank, that's reassuring

I was gonna call back and pick it up tomorrow but consensus seems to be it won't fit in the car! Beginning to wonder whether it's worth making the effort. Anyone any idea what a second hand stock exhaust with 42k miles on it might be worth? A

grab it & stash it mate.. you'd die at the cost of a new one.. keep it with the car.A tad off topic, but how do people rate the Milltek exhaust against more expensive competition like Tubi and Europipe? I need a bit more noise from my Turbo S, having come from a GT3 and a series of TVRs before that - I know it will never sound that good, but it does need tone just a bit louder!
