Hi,

I am very seriously considering purchasing a 996 C4S Cab and have found one privately.

I have attempted to search here for an historical thread that outlines the potential 'gotcha's' with this model with no success.

Does anyone know if this has been discussed on here before and if so, knidly point me in the right direction please?

Alternatively, looking for a steer in terms of potential issues and challenges, known faults, recalls, running costs, depreciation, currrent value's and all the usual helpful stuff from existing and previous owners. Essentially a sainty check if possible please.

Any help or time would be very greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi - I have just sold a 54 plate 996 C2S (to be honest I prefer the coupe way above the cab - but don't let that put you off) - a bloody great car in every way.
If you really need 4 wheel drive then obviously the C4 is the one for you.
However I found after test driving them both in manual and tip that I enjoyed the C2 far more. I finally got the C2 with Tip - brilliant.
Always buy on condition above age and mileage and ensure that if you are buying privately that you have the car inspected.
The cars are pretty bullet proof really - just look out for the main seals and check that the car has loads of history. Mine had a very minor recall for a bracket replacement.
I found the running costs to be very reasonable considering what you are driving. I had the car for four years and it never missed a beat. Servicing by a good independent is also not too scary and there are a few around. As far as depreciation goes - don't worry about it as it will depreciate like any other car. Don't kid yourself that it's a wise financial investment - it's not. It is however one of - if not the best all round performance car you can buy!!
You should be able to get one for between £15k circa 1998 (pre-facelift) - £22k circa 2004 (facelift)!
I hope that this helps.
However there are far more knowledgeable PHers on here that will be able to go into far more detail if you wish.
Cheers
Steve

I am just about to advertise a 2005 C4S Cabriolet in mint condition.
Great 2 owner car.
Low miles pm if you're interested.
