So just because it's had 25k thrown at, it means it's worth 46k hmmm....

Problem with upgraded cars, its always a doubt as to how well they are done, most would rather buy a standard one at 25 and spend the 25 extra themselves if they really wanted all that done...

This one...I wouldn't even pay 20 for it! But that's just me - I like my cars original.

Reasonably good car and looks as though a premium of around £20k is being charged for the extra engine work etc. I would think this is asking too much in IMHO even though the engine rebuild was only 3.5k miles ago. Usually upgrades half in value on re-sale - at least that's what happen to me and it wasn't a particularly fast sale and the upgrade parts were only 500 miles old!

Seriously this is a bargain even at that price if you are looking for a built motor. We didn't do this one, but I know who did.

This is a fully built motor with everything new and upgraded parts - that alone is £15k+vat and you are starting with zero miles in terms of the engine.

Then the rest of the stuff as well.

Would have no issues paying that for the car at all.

Like I said it depends on what you are looking for. I have customers who are buying at £25k and spend that again or in some cases double again.

I am guessing part of the fun is doing the build, so paying for one that is already done takes a lot of the enjoyment out I would imagine for those that are so inclined. Deciding what to do yourself, finding a person to do it (like your company) and making mistakes, learning, etc. is all part of the fun!

I do agree with you..I have several customers who enjoy the project, but I also have customers who don't want to wait.

If this car was without a built motor, then personally the value would be a lot less, and also dependent on who done the work. We are seeing for our packages a firm resale value, and have had real money on the table from customers who cannot wait.

The built motor is the key in this instance, and I am assuming that the built motor carries a warranty as well from the company who built it - that is another key point otherwise imo it then drops the price - it is a bit like if you have an engine failure - do you buy a second hand one or rebuild the existing one..the latter is alway the preference because you know for sure it is going to be good.

Car which have been modified lightly etc are imo going to lose money over those that have not. But the customer has had fun.

The only modified ones that will hold value are those with a proper package, model number and with warranty.

The UK market is still a very virgin market for modified cars.

It is only a bargain ...the rest of the quote I said...if you are looking for a built motor.

Donor Car 25-30k including bring up to spec - rads etc.
Engine Build (built) £15k
700hp kit £20k

Then add Brake package £4k, suspension £5.5k.

Then add VAT to some of that.

Looks a bargain (good value, whatever you want to call it) to me if that is what you want.

Just a thought. Maybe you could sell the car for this guy and have a profit!

It will never sell at that kind of money, most people would much rather have a 'good' 997 Turbo.

+1

You can probably charge £12.5k to maybe £15k premium but you never get all your money back and probably not £20k+ back.

Still a good car though and the work has been professionally done.

Exactly this, I would never pay that kind of money for someone elses project and would never expect to recover any of my own, that would be deluded. Good luck to seller though.

There seems to be a lot of pre-conceived ideas around, like "you never recover what you put in £ wise", and "I can't pay for someone else's project" etc etc... It seems to suggest the modified market in the UK is in its infancy compared to somewhere like the USA, where modified cars like this are traded quite commonly. The market here would probably normalize if more of these cars were traded here.

If I was in the market to buy again (i) as long as the mods were proven, (ii) had a warranty, and (iii) was done by a reputed professional, then I'd calculate what was spent versus price asked, try to get a bit of a discount of course - and enjoy what a beast (in this case with a virtually new engine) I was getting for the cash! This car ticks all of the above boxes...

And the hassle of a major upgrade is nice to avoid if possible, I think (although it can be fun if your technically minded) as you never know what else will need doing when your in there (and can be big unwanted extra £), I.e, how will you know the liners will be in good enough condition ?, the camshafts ? the oil pump ? the pistons ? one of the heads no good, - big, big extra bucks if any of these parts also need replacing...also the works takes months, and if something goes wrong before it is finished, there will be a lot more aggro = stress that can be avoided IMHO.
