Killing the DRLs
Discussion
Whipped out a headlamp today and had a rummage around inside.
- Access is very limited and it's not at all obvious how the DRL/sidelamp is fitted. Any suggestions on how to release it?
- Nonetheless I can see there are three wires to the DRL/sidelamp so it's presumably possible to disable DRL function while leaving the sidelamp active.
- One wire is brown, so we'll leave that one alone.

- The other two wires are coloured - but which one to cut? Suggestions please!

Why turn them off at all?
I think some people don't like the fact that they're fitted as standard. I like the fact that they're compulsory fit but not compulsory use; and I leave them on anyway as they look quite good IMO. I don't really like the Auto function as I don't like putting my headlights on, unless of course there's no street lights on.Ozzie Osmond said:
Mine are "not turn offable". Which wouldn't bother me if it was just sidelights but the DRLs are so bright they just seem to shout "Look at me, I'm a tw@t".
I'm with you on this but I think they can be turned off via the display (they can on 997, but you have to do everytime you start up). The only saving grace is that they're not far more commonplace and I reckon most other drivers are starting to tolerate them, but I do feel like one of the Corsa/fog lamp brigade these days. I'm sure that on my 987 they stay switched off.. or have I been driving around looking even more of a tw@t than I thought!?You can't turn them off in 9x1, as has been said. Leaving aside the argument around taste, what is the law on this? I thought they were now mandatory for a reason.
Regarding aesthetics and function, I actually like the increased presence they give the car, which is especially reassuring at speed. I also think they look cool and given that they are increasingly the norm I don't feel self-conscious of them.
