MWA now R K Harrison have sent me a renewal at £1020!

Last year £11,000 Boxster insured for £820. I asked them to lower the value as it has not been changed for 3 years. Apparently it makes no difference, some rubbish about adjusting the mileage schedule as I drive on 5000 limited miles.

So my yearly insurance company change continues. £861 on go compared even and some of these companies claim to be specialists, joke.

Do they not value continued business or is trying to rob your current customer base just the norm?

£820 as a percentage of £11000 is 7.45%

£1020 as a percentage of £8000 is 12.75%

Increasing the premium from £820 to £1020 is 24.5% increase.

Do they really believe they can claim that is justified on an 'adjustment of mileage'.

36, 6 years no claims, garaged, tracker, no convictions, 1 non fault accident all costs recovered, 5000 miles. S2 Postcode

Insurance has very little to do with the value of your car. Their main risk is the third party risk. You can wipe out a bus queue of people in a 500£ car just as easily as in a 100k car.

As an insured driver you're penalised for retaining your insurance company for more than a year, that's generally how it works. Loyalty means nothing ... its all about gaining new business rather than retaining it as more people stay and pay, rather than shop around.

If insurance is only based on the possibility of wiping out bus queues we should all be paying the same then ! wink

Direct Line is VERY competitive on Porsche at the moment. Worth trying them for a quote

And avoid the cheapest quotes who say "we will install a device in your Porsche to monitor how efficient your driving is".

Why stick with one insurer if all they're giving you is ste quotes? Head over to Compare The Market (I've found this to be the best comparison site) and find the cheapest insurer meeting your needs - takes 10 minutes...

If anything, my insurance profile should be slightly worse than yours (London postcode, Boxster S worth a bit more and 3 points, but all other factors the same) and I pay about £400.

I have been with the same insurer for years, but I don't even bother looking at their renewal quote any more. Each year, I just get onto one of the comparison sites and get my insurer to match the best quote.

One point to note is that garaging your car now actually costs more with most insurers than parking on the road (at least in my postcode). Makes no sense to me!

Compare the Market is awful. Loads of quotes that were actually all from the same insurer, and they said Admiral would charge me £8k - they turned out to be the cheapest [£3.5k at low excess levels and half that with the excess ramped up - but then I'm 27 with no NCB and live in M1].

Garaged can increase the cost of insurance, makes it easier to nick.

Must vary for different age groups then.

I used to shop round every year and realised some time ago that loyalty means nothing. I used to regularly receive a renewal notice, shop round, find a substantially better premium, only for that quote to be matched by the existing insurer. I don't bother to go back to the existing insurer now. I've used Henderson Taylor for the last 2 years and both years they came up with a substantial saving over any other insurer. And they're pleasant to deal with!

my 'we value your continued custom' broker tried a wopping 50% increase on my premium..OK I had made a smallish claim this year...but come on. Gave Bridle a call and ended up with the same policy, from the some company..for less than I paid last year. Give them a try.

I've seen this quoted a lot, but never really understood it.
Sure, they know exactly what house to break into to steal the keys, same as if it was on the driveway, and I guess it could get scraped going in or out of the garage.
On the other hand, there's no chance of it getting keyed or hit by another car. An opportunist thief won't see the car. There's an extra level of "security" to get past to gain access.

AFAIK, all classic policies insist that the car is garaged overnight, if kept at the home address. Why would they do that if putting a car in a garage increased the risk?

Have a look at LV, they have renewed my wifes cooper-S works for the past two years with essentially an inflation increase (this year is went up by 2%) so i dont even bother to compare others in this case knowing how competitive they were when I first started using them. Also they dont ask for stupid things like trackers at least on her car.
