Gents,
I had a few drips of oil dropping off the engine oil filter (not the one in the wing).
I have put up with it for a while, but yesterday jacked it up and tweaked the oil filter half a turn.
It’s now very rapidly dripping out, 10 times worse!!
I am guessing there is not much up near the oil filter other than filter its self and an oil return pipe.
Is it likely I have damaged the rubber seal on the filter or are there other horrors there to be unearthed?
Advice appreciated!
Keith

I had a very small leak on my 993 for over 12 months, finally traced it to a leaking oil filter. This filter is not easy to get at and i think it must have been damaged during replacement. It's very unusual to damage the seal.

993's don't leak oil, they cry black virgins tears for what came after them.

Can anyone else confirm this, it sounds about right to me

Don't talk wet!

Is it PC to talk about black virgins, let alone crying ones with something coming after them? eek

And I thought 993's were perfect. How silly of me.

You are probably going to have to replace the oil filter. How 996 owners must be laughing....

whistlehehe

Hi keith, i've seen drippy oil filters before.

IME/IMO either:

1. It's not tight enough (looks like you've ruled that one out)

2. the gasket has been 'pinched' or torn maybe because it wasn't lubed during install

3. the old gasket was still stuck to the mating face of the housing and now you have 2 gaskets there.

The oil return pipe has its own O ring and there are other mated surfaces that could potentially leak but the fact that its altered its rate with you moving the filter must mean the problem is at that junction.

I would drain or siphon off the oil and then take it off fully to inspect. Note that you don't always have to remove the return pipe for access.

Gents,
Just a quick update.
The oil filters rubber gasket had a tear in it, very bizarre!
When I originally tweaked it up I must have made it worse...
Anyway sorted and now drip free!
Cheers
Keith
