Buying an Approved used Boxster from an official dealer ?
Discussion
i purchased a cayman s last year this time from the OPC... bad.. u do pay more for sure.. good.. u get a 2 yr warranty.. have had to use them about 3 times so far (make of the build quality what you will) but so far no probs with the claims...
it was my first porsche so was a little more cautious
did check out the various independent websites (RSJ eg) but there really wasn't much diff in price imho

You've not said what age you're looking at but I think up to 2-3 years go with an OPC otherwise an Indy and to some extent this decision is made for you since, as another poster has noted, opcs stock focuses on the newer end and vice versa. My two 987s were both around a year old and purchased from OPC. Niggles were sorted without any push back so all ok there. But if I go for a 911 next it is likely going to be around 3 years old so will definitely consider indies then.
I have no issue buying private newer cars as long as they are at least 2k below a OPC price if they have no warranty.
Then if you wish you can add the 2 year warranty.
A lot of 2nd hand cars might have 2 year warranty any way or at least a 1 year, as an example if I sold my Spyder now it would have 19 months warranty on it
because it had a extended (over 2 years) warranty when I bought it.
I don't mind where I buy from, you will find a lot of the better cars are private sales any way I find, dealers seem to end up with a lot of stock which does not sell private imo. when I looked at dealers they have all the cars with blue leather or odd things which make them stick around a bit.
colour, price, spec and warranty all play a part to what a car is worth, so in the end it matters not where you buy from, but that you got it at a price you are happy with.

I bought my 2004 986 when it was 4 years old from an OPC because I wanted the warranty. You can easily see the premium you pay by comparing with Pistonheads classified - it used to be around £5k. Given the price of the Porsche warranty has dropped a fair amount, and providing you're confident the car you buy will pass their inspection, I don't think it makes as much economic sense to buy from an OPC now.
There are more indies who offer their own decent warranties now too, like RPM Technik, Northway, RSJ. Third-party warranties are, IMHO, not worth the paper the terms and conditions are written on.

Bought my Boxster S from Hatfield OPC and my Cayman S from East London OPC. When you take into account the cost of the warranty the OPCs seem to make a lot of sense to me. That said, having been reading this forum for over a year now there are one or two independents that I'd buy from if the price was competitive enough, and then probably put the warranty on the car after the requisite 90 days ownership. I'd not be saving anything, but would allow me a greater choice. Can't see me having the guts to buy privately I don't think.
Whether OPC or Indy whoever you buy from should be reputable. There are good and bad in both camps, and prices and discounts vary too. Do not assume Indy is always cheaper or OPC is always better.
Unless you have manufacturer warranty left the 2 year approved insurance policy will result in void claims if you modify the car, eg I can't take out the approved policy because I have a decent stereo fitted.
The best OPCs in my experience are Mid Sussex and Bristol, the best Indys I have been recommended consistently on their cars are 911 Virgin, Portiacraft and Specialist cars of Malton.

Hey now you leave blue leather out of this! Then if you wish you can add the 2 year warranty.

Seriously though, in everything except direct sunlight it pretty much looks black.OP - An unusual option/colour combination can sometimes be a real bargain if you are not fussy. Most people want their Porsche to be black, grey or silver with dark leather.
