Drove a 991 yesterday!
Discussion
At the Porsche Experience Centre, Silverstone.
Unfortunately it was a Cabrio (which wouldn't have been my choice for circuit work), but on the upside it was a manual. Now I thought I was getting a Carerra "S", but the smaller wheels and the lack of puch told me otherwise!
However, I can really see what the road testers mean about the steering! It seems totally devoid of feel (especially having stepped out of what I consider the "best of breed" for steering feel - a 997 GT3), so it took me quite a while to adjust and turn in fast and not too hard with no information stream.
Yes the 991's steering is accurate, consistent and well weighted, but that lack of feedback is odd and makes it feel less like a Porsche and more like a BMW ....
Other things are that the car feels much bigger, wider also (expected), but I didn't expect it to feel longer and higher too! Agree with others in the pricing stakes, as my demo car was worth nearly £100K - for a base model 911 Cabrio!
I just hope the hard top is better and that the 991 GT3 is significantly better, as otherwise my long term plan means that when the old banger needs replacing, I may have to get my thrills with another marque!

...or keep your GT3 a little longer than planned :-)
Agree totally about your comment on the steering. In fact, on my 991 test drive I also mentioned to the salesman that I thought the car felt like a BMW... very nice, very comfortable, but with no punch or 'porsche feel'. Then he pressed the sport button and it (mostly) changed. It still lacked feel in the steering, but at least it had some kick and the PDK was a bit snappier.
Overall I like the 991, but to me it feels more like a GT than a little sports car or track day tool. Im hoping that 997 Turbos and GT3s might just keep a bit of their cachet if the new versions are larger and lacking in feel.
