Afternoon all

I am thinking of upgrading my 997.1 S to a 997 turbo but I have some concerns, can anyone shed any light on the following?

1 Is the 997.1 turbo a 'more reliable' engine than the 2005 997.1S engine? (can of worms I know but does it have the fabled mezger engine?)

2 What power can you get out of the 997tt RELIABLY and SAFELY - the car will be a daily driver

3 Is there a quick throttle response in the 997tt for heel-and-toe gear changes or do you have to 'plan ahead' when shifting gears?

Thanks in advance

Hi Kul,

Some answers that might help:

1 Is the 997.1 turbo a 'more reliable' engine than the 2005 997.1S engine?
Yes Absolutely, the 997 Turbo is a 'built' engine, Far more reliable than the .1S engine

2 What power can you get out of the 997tt RELIABLY and SAFELY - the car will be a daily driver
540bhp really would be the max, even then you will reduce the life of the clutch.. if you are willing to spend mega ££ - you can upgrade the turbos, change the clutch etc etc - then 650+ is achievable.

3 Is there a quick throttle response in the 997tt for heel-and-toe gear changes or do you have to 'plan ahead' when shifting gears?

Dont know - sorry

1. Yes it does have the fabled engine and it's regarded as "bulletproof" in terms of the block and does not suffer the issues yoyu hear about on the n/a cars.

2. Not sure but, take my word for it, the standard 480bhp or whatever it is, is quite enough

3. There is definitely a bit of lag on the manual car when you change gears but it catches up so quickly that I have never felt the need to try and drive round that.

1. Car is famous for reliable engine.
2. Loads of tuned versions out there running high power. GT2 RS stock has 620hp and uses same block.
3. It's a turbo but sport chrono helps throttle response.

Thanks for your replies guys thumbup

I have loved driving my C2S and the car as a package is brilliant but I am just after more power and the thought of the engine failing on my C2S is always in the back of my mind, looks like i'll have to start the search for a good 997tt, take a test drive and go from there.

Anything in particular I should look out for?
I only want a manual gearbox and not bothered about colour.

What would be a good price to sell my 997.1 C2S for? It's a 2005 with 44k and in excellent condition mechanically and aesthetically. It also has an RSJ warranty on it till May 2013.
