I've noticed that since I got the car a couple of months ago, the boot will randomly pop open. I've never actually seen it happen, but tend to notice when I look at the car out of the house/office window.

I don't know whether this is some kind of fault or whether the buttons on the key are outrageously sensitive (and signal powerful enough to cut through brick walls).

Anyone had any experience of this?

Yes, key is very sensitive. Mine has been known to do exactly the same if I'm within range and key is in my jeans pocket.

In my case, think I just need to buy some baggier jeans...else lose some more weight !

Do you ever put your keys in your pocket? Have you any small children in the house?

And yes, they do have quite a range .....

I think it is the remote control, probably in your pocket, where the button is too sensitive and positioned so that as you walk near the car with the keys in your pocket, a little squeeze of the fabric and voila, the boot pops open...

I suspect that if you don't put the keys where the fob gets "squeezed" it won't happen.

All this could, however, be wrong. smile

Ok guys. Glad to know it's not just me and it's not a fault.

Just a concern that the "unlock" button is a lot easier to press than the boot release and that the whole car can be unlocked without me being aware. I know it locks itself again a short time later, but still...

I had the same problem, your dealer should be able to program the car so the boot button needs to be held down for longer before the boot opens.

The change helped a bit but I still get the problem occasionally when the keys are in my pocket.

You can change to gen2 keys which are less sensitive.

That's worth looking into, thanks for this. I have my boot delay set to 2 seconds or so, so maybe a key upgrade will do the trick - never had this same problem with any other car I've owned.

If it is a Gen1 key, you can also buy a "repair kit", which consists of a set of flatter buttons and the rubber membrane inside. It makes them a LOT less sensitive. I got a set for my Cayman, and haven't had any problems since.

(Book is available on Amazon or pmmbooks.com)

New flatter buttons. The raised ribs also help prevent unwanted activation.

About £30 with some club discount.

Isn't it just simpler to avoid putting the key in a pocket where you know it's going to be squeezed.

Known problem with 997, had my switch ( next to drivers seat) replaced under warranty. Fixed the problem.

Perfect thread! I came out of the office a couple of days ago to find the boot (the one at the front, never sure what to call taht!) open and the car unlocked. I can only imagine the key was depressed in my handbag while I was in the office - a fair distance and 2 floors up !

The key definitely unlocks the car from inside our house too.
