Am i mad?

I have now owned my 2006 997 C2S for 16mths and covered 7k mls and have blown a small fortune on it!

Items replaced/added-All work carried out by Porsche dealer.

Switchable sports exhaust system
Sport Design wheels with Michelins(Already had the std Carrera S wheels refurbed-just, 80% good-Pirellis)
New clutch-old one had life left in it!
Replaced Main/IMS seal
New belts
Luggage liner/Porsche car cover/New mats
New cooling fan ecu
Main service 5000mls ago, just had minor as well as plugs and A/C service
Just had-2 YR Porsche Warranty-Had to replace coil packs for this
12mths MOT

Don't dare to work out how much it stands at now!

Car is Basalt Black-Manual-Chrono plus-Sports seats-ext leather,39,000mls and i'm the 4th owner. The car is in Mint condition.

Maybe i've got to keep this motor forever to benefit from this lot! Had considered selling it.

Thoughts appreciated!!

It does look like a lot of cash, but if you're enjoying the car and you can afford it, why not.
I have spent "farily heathily" on my 996 turbo, but probably because I consider it a keeper.
I guess I look upon it as my vice.

Keep enjoying the car and spend on it if you need/want to.

If you're going to sell it tommorow or near future, then yes, maybe the outlay will not really have been worthwhile, though it may make it more desirable and therefore easier to sell but probably not worth much more compared to the spends.

But if this is your pride and joy and something that you hope to get a few years pleasure from then perhaps the satisfaction you get from the work just makes the spend irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

Enjoy it.

I done exactly the same on a 997 c2s and u will never recoup the cash and the car will only keep depreciating. Sorry to the bearer of bad news but thats the facts. I kept upgrading parts then realised what I really wanted and what suited me and flogged the 2s. It was a great car but I wanted noise so I got the PSE as well and bits like the thicker steering wheel plus various dabbles with odds and ends. What I was yearning for was modern day power that the 2s had but with older car noise and rawness. I eventually found it after then buying a 993 and spending yet more cash with a 997 gt3 clubsport.
Go drive one and tell me it's not for you. I was where u are now m8

It's an illness! I spent similar amounts of money on my C2S and then traded it in for a GT3 after 8 months .....

I spent £3500 on protection film and £8500 on my stereo... And it's just a Boxster.

I've no idea what you've spent, but, in 5 years time you'll still have a lovely car. Mr Average purchases a new Ford Mondeo 2.2 TD at £25,000 and keeps it for 5 years, spends only a grand or so on maintenance and part ex's it for another new Mondeo for £6000.

Do the maths. You have a performance car that oozes class, Mr Average has a Mondeo.

Its all choices of course and if you were saying that you don't get any enjoyment out of driving and would happily buy a depreciation proof bargain banger thats another story altogether.

I assume you mean the trade in value against a new Mondeo was £6k as opposed to new Mondeo for old Mondeo plus £6k.

Mr Average really buys a used 2-3 year old Mondeo for about £12K and keeps it for 3 years and sells it for £5K. It's really not the same thing, but the man maths is good for convincing your other half a £70K Porsche is actually cheaper to own.

I know someone who spends £30 a day on beer and cigs (and that's EVERY day). At least we Porsche owners can SEE our outlay. Carry on enjoying it, before you get too old or ill. Happy Days.
