The same way most modern cars are stolen, house break-in to get the keys.

I would be devastated if this happened to me but I don't know if I would really want the car back, they no doubt nicked it, and thrashed the arse off it and no doubt weren't considerate enough not to take it over 3k rpm until the oil was warm.

I keep my keys on me at all times, even when I am sleeping... my alsatian guards the spare set

I am really sorry to hear about whats happened. I had an E92 M3 nicked not so long ago and it feels terrible. Thieving scum should get what they deserve!!! I wish u all the best and hope for a good outcome
