Dear all

My 997.2 is looking a little scruffy inside. I need to clean the dash, doors and seats. Of course I don't want the leather to go all shiny as a result of using the wrong stuff..

Any recommendations?

Jack

Gliptone cleaner and conditioner will do the trick.

Use a JML Magic Eraser dipped in water to get rid of any built in grime. They are quite abrasive so test on a small, inconspicuous area and be gentle. It's also a great way to take the sheen off a well used steering wheel. Then use a leather conditioning treatment to feed and seal. I used the JML on my Terracotta seats and the difference was staggering.

I've used two products:

Connolly Hide Food - Difficult to apply evenly, takes some elbow grease to buff off (and smells of horse) - but it leaves a really stunning matt finish and pumps out many of the cracks / creases.

Zymol Leather Cleaner / Zymol Leather Cream - Lovely and easy to apply. Use the leather cleaner one day (to ensure it's fully dry), use the cream the next day and buff the excess off once it dries. Can leave it a little shiny if you buff too hard / use too much (but not it's not slippery to the touch).

What products will take a shinny dash back to the factory matt finish? My 993 seriously needs the leather sorting.

I used a soft nail brush and let it get right into the grain on my leather, Totally transformed my interior. Smells and looks like new.

Great value to, e.g

The Connolly hide food will do this - but you might be best served by getting this done professionally if it really needs some proper TLC ....

Gliptone GT12 cleaner, followed by GT11 conditioner, will give you the results you want. Used exactly per the instructions, it will even transform a shiny steering wheel back into a new-looking, matt-finish item again. And... the inside of your car will smell like newly-installed, old-fashioned leather. Great product.

On a related note, what is the best way to restore the blue leather dashboard in my 993 where it has become a little scuffed and faded. Same issue with the steering wheel and handbrake. Is there a product that can bring back/top up the colour?

Either this, or consider reconnolising the leather via a specialist trimmer. It will look much better than any DIY kit and cost only a bit more. Where are you based?

for cleaning the leather on a regular basis, i have always used natural soap flakes dissolved in warm water and a non linting cloth, this cleans any greasy fingers and dirt without changing the appearence of the leather,
