Seems Gen 2 RS prices have suddenly dropped to circa £93k from £100k+ - any idea what might bring about a sudden drop of £7k in a market? stty summer weather? Pending new GT3 release?

It's not like they're suddenly available in greater numbers...

Usually two things..

1. They were priced too high, and people realised that.

2. A few owners wanted to get rid - so dropped their prices, others followed

Yeah from looking at things there's a couple which have been on sale for a little while, plus some new ones on the market so I guess just usual market forces. It seemed odd that it would be such a drop though - £7k seems an awful lot to suddenly shed from an asking price, especially considering Gen 1 GT3s have been inching down by £1-2k a year.

7k is hardly a massive drop on a 100k car!!

I think its just normal depreciation possibly pushed a little by a crap summer and the recession.

They have strong residuals but they are not depreciation proof!

Reading sold one last year for less than £97k with only 1500 or so miles on it and another higher specified car in a paint to sample colour went in the same time frame from another OPC for less than £106k (I was tracking the market at the time, but opted for a Clubsport in the end). I don't really see much evidence of the contention of a price move here (other than to say that there are always overpriced cars not moving)..... rolleyes

Also note that the cheapest car on the market would be the one in the other thread on here with a range 1 over rev, no extended warranty and possibly the most marmite colour option that they offered.

Rev range 1-3 is OK, rev range 4-6 means engine inspection before they'll issue an extended warranty

PDK in the new version will hopefully put paid to that risk. And the car will be faster wink

People do need to learn what a over rev is, range 1 is NOT one

On a 997 GT3, yes it is. Range 1 starts at 9000rpm and the limiter is at 8500. This is not the case for Carreras or 996s and is being merrily done to death on the supermarket thread here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

On a Carrera this is true. On a 997 GT3 it most certainly is not. [repeating myself a lot here for all the people who haven't done their background on the 997 GT3]. Range 1 on a 997 GT3 is 500rpm OVER the rev limiter and equivalent to a range 5 on a Carrera. Check the other thread for details.

Happy to admit if I'm wrong.
So on a 997 GT3 or 3RS when the rev limiter is reached it doesn't register on range 1? So ranges 2-6 are redundant and if you hit range 1 the damage is done?
Can't figure why it would be set up that way.

My mistake sorry, still 6 ranges like a normal car but starts at 9k in range 1.
We should make the ranges a sticky on here it's not simple.
