Just goes to show dunnit?
Internet hype blows stuff out of proportion.
So a boxster having 300k on clock and the 3.2 carrera's needing top end re build at 50k.
Except neither are the norm. MOst 3.2s will happily go, with right servicing, to over 100k before needing rebuilds and a significant number of Boxster engines goe bang long long before 100,000 miles let alone 300k. As in most things trends are more important than extreme outliersInternet hype blows stuff out of proportion.

I agree with that. I have an 04 fpsh 3.2s and am recovering from a £7k IMS failure at 45k miles. It isn't all scaremongering.I think it proves the old saying, use the bl**dy things. It seems that the less used examples suffer from mechanical woes, and the daily used high milers run forwver. It's the same for all exotica and machines in general.I had an expensive Italian motorbike a few years ago, when it was my only bike and was used all the time, it was brilliant. As soon as I got another bike and used it less often, it started to show signs of playing up, not starting 1st time, stuff not working etc.
