I have got a 2005 Boxster S that has only covered 17,000 miles.

I had the 6 year service done last year at about 14,000 miles so there is no scheduled service due until June 2013. This is my first car with a 2 year service interval and I still don't feel entirely comfortable with leaving the same oil in for that long, even on a car that is only used on the weekends.

Does anyone else who does low miles change it more regularly? My mileage is unlikely ever to top 5,000 per year, but a lot of that is town driving.

Both the Boxster and the TVR do low milage, but would not dream of not changing it at least once a year. Simple enough job on the Boxster. I am led to believe that if you don't use it much in winter it is better to stand with fresh oil in rather than old stuff. (just what I've read)

AFAIK synthetic oil won't degrade much after a year.

You should change oil at least every year even if not doing many miles.

Thanks for the replies. The consensus seems to be to change it.

I assume that anyone who offers an oil & filter change will be able to do this? I'll just buy some Mobil 1 and take it to my local place I think.

I cover an average of 5k a year and change the oil and filter every Winter regardless, a simple and quick enough job.

If you mean OPC or recommended Porsche specialist then yes. Don't go to Kwikfit or some other uncles company.

I honestly believe that anyone not doing an annual oil change (or 12k if sooner) on ANY Porsche regardless of the type of oil used is absolutely nuts.

In fact, I will go as far to say you get what you deserve. Despite what Porsche say!!!!

I would go further still. In the 60's I believe oil was supposed to be changed every couple of thousand miles. To go any more than that between changes must be madness also?
