..I'm sure some Boxter experts will be along shortly, but make sure it's got a FSH, FPSH is even betterer, make sure it's had a clutch, and a set of brakes on it to save you the job of doing them at your own cost, or knock these costs off when buying 1..

IMS failure. Google it.

Clutch is probably around the £500 mark at an Indie.

As above - IMS and RMS are the big worries on these cars (search the web for details). I'd want a full history, early on with Porsche dealers, and then be satisfied with more recent work being done at an indie.

Check the footwell and floor of the front boot for damp carpet too, otherwise the usual stuff when buying a car. Cracking cars, but not the cheapest to run.

Lots of advice, of sorts, available on here. Consider also boxa.net which is a Boxster specific site.

True, especially with a car around the 70k mark; it'll be due a clutch (probably) and it'd be prudent to change the RMS at the same time.

Mine's just above 70k and has had new discs/pads, tyres, RMS, clutch and precautionary IMS at the last service. Without them, I'd assume such a car would need most of that relatively soon.

Jimmyone, head over to BoXa.net, there's a buyers guide there also check out at a very helpful book called " ultimate buyers guide Porsche Boxster and Cayman" this covers all models from 1996 to 2007, its by Peter Morgan you can get one on Amazon, at least this will get you started.

I would not bother searching the web as you will find a lot of mis-informed information. Instead, goto http://www.hartech.org/buyers.html and read their buyers guide which is based on fact.
