Hi guys,
I am thinking about starting to mod
My 05 987 boxster on return from my euro roadtrip. I have scuffed my 997tt 19" wheels so these are being powder coated matte black. I have also been given a quote of £580 to fit an eibach 25mm lowering kit, alongwith a full geo check and setup. Does this sound like a good price and is it worth doing. Ps the car has PASM, the indi says there will be no issues with this?

Cheers aly

£580 sounds like springs rather than full suspension.

I'd question the acumen of any indie that says that replacing the springs on a matched system controlled electronically will cause "no issues".

I think it would work, but you might notice sub-optimal behaviour from PASM, or it might throw weird sensor readings. I've read elsewhere that you need to make sure you get linear-type springs instead of progressive to avoid premature shock wear.

Yup, it's been before. Take a look on the US sites (Planet-9, Renntech.org etc) and you will find a number of documented mods like this.

Cheers for that. The car is well out of warranty but seriously low mileage and looked after v well by my indi (race team) guys. I'm going to go ahead and have it done!

Mine has PASM and has been lowered. However, i haven't been able to find out how it was done.

But it drives superbly so worth doing if you want the lower stance. Just make sure it is done properly.

Cheers doozy, do you have any other pics of your car? I take it you don't get any error messages from the PASM etc? Cheers aly

'No issues' depends on several factors. Some you might wish to consider are:

1) What are the new spring rates compared to the standard springs - much harder/softer and the damping will be so far out the car will be horrible.
2) Are the new springs linear/rising rate - comment as above.
3) Ground clearance - needs no comment!
4) Wheel travel - will be much reduced with shorter/stiffer springs. With a combination of harder springs, reduced wheel trave and reduced ground clearance, you may find your car is a real nightmare and a proper handful on typical UK 'B' roads (and cannot be driven anywhere near as quickly as a consequence).
4) Geo - a 1" lower ride height all-round may need different settings than Porsche's standard ones to work properly. What basis for a safe, balanced setup is the indy going to use?
5) Anti-roll bars - will these be uprated to match the new spring rates?

I would definitely recommend you seek the services of a properly-recognised suspension specialist if you're going to make substantial changes. It's really important that any suspension changes are appropriate to the car's intended use and a good suspension spcialist will be able to advise you of proven setups that will give you the results you want.

My preferred choice would be Chris Franklin at Center Gravity but there are others that can also do a proper job for you.
