Tyre Sure pressure monitoring system
Discussion
Having been told by a forum member the other day that the digital gauge I use is crap, does anybody use the Tyre Sure system on their car?

Why would your digital gauge be crap ? If its consistent that's the main thing. Just calibrate it once with a gauge that you know is correct and then job done.
I don't know why, I mentioned on the Geo set up thread about it the other day and one of the members came back and said they are crap, I did ask what would he recommend then but got no reply. I did go for one of the ones recommended in what I recall was the Auto Express review but who knows? doneitnow said:

Try tyremoni http://shop.tiremoni.com/en/ available from Amazon. Superior product and fitted to my wife's car. Works well for us and certainly reassuring on a long trip.Link here for anyone interested http://tyresure.com/

You're really mixing up 2 different products. A tyre pressure gauge is for accurately measuring the pressure in the tyre. To do this accurately costs a bit of money and I would be looking at the products from Longacre or Intercomp who make gauges for use in racing.
Tyre Sure is more of a monitoring system which will alert you via an insistent beeping to over/under pressure & temperature. The pressure indicator is accurate to about 1psi when compared to a professional grade gauge.
I use both on my track car but I only trust the former!
Not crap but 'notoriously inaccurate'.
Cheap and accurate is an oxymoron but the simple Dunlop type - which push out the calibrated section are reasonable accurate if you invest in a 'make' and are the preferred type in aviation. As long as you look after it and don't through it about, or use it like a flick knife to whizz the scale out it will be reliable, consistent of reading and fairly accurate.
Failing that spend mega bucks on a racing gauge.

Maybe I have been lucky. In my time I have used 2 digital gauges, a racing gauge and the "cheapest" one on the foot pump. None has been more than 1 lb/ft^2 away from the average (and that confirmed at a dealer workshop).
Far more critical is measuring tyres cold and preferably in the shade (unless for track use and using a pyrometer).

Thanks for the reply, I was not mixing the two up, I understand the difference it was just having been told my gauge was crap I thought about investing in this as well, I had a pressure monitoring system factory fitted on my sprinter when I bought it and I have to say it is worth its wait in gold as we always have the van heavily loaded and it is good to be able to keep an eye on the tyres, especially as pulling a large trailer. I will have a look at the two you have suggested, cheers. A tyre pressure gauge is for accurately measuring the pressure in the tyre.
