Carnewal exhaust fitted today !
Discussion
Evening all,
Had the Carnewal exhaust fitted today, i opted to have it delivered and try to fit it myself however i bottled the fitting and ended up taking it to My local Porsche Indy PEcarspecialists in Barnsley.
Took about 2.5hrs in the end as the guy had to blowtorch the rusted bolts out of my original exhaust so i'm pleased i didn't attempt it myself.
So far i've done about 30miles in the rain and its a great sound, low revs rumble is lovely, has a bit of a pop when letting off the gas and it howls great on a bit of throttle, no drone so far as I can tell.
Can't recommend it more for the cayman! Was tempted by the PSE until i was quoted £2500 but i'm far happier I opted for this as its brilliant for the money.
Only downside is that while it was up on the ramps i noticed some oil underneath and the mechanic diagnosed a probable rms leak
.. His advice was that since its not burning through oil or dripping yet that I have some time to get it done, is this sound advice?
Cheers
Russ

Glad the exhaust worked out. How much did you save over the opc pse one?
For the rms leak, if it's only slightly weeping, you can wait until the clutch needs changing and do it at the same time - just need to watch it in the meantime.
A quick search of the forum is probably in order to see what other have done in the same situation.
I suppose it has no warranty?
Evening guys
The Carnewal GT exhaust cost around £700 and took about a week to be made and shipped, once I send my original ones back I will get a refund of around £300 so that they can be used for the next customer.
So I saved around £2k on the PSE option if i add on the £80 fitting charge for the 2.5hrs the chap spent getting the old rusty bolts out.
Thanks for the heads up on the RMS leak, will keep an eye on it until I see a spot on the block paving.

Another big thumbs-up for Gert Carnewal's exhausts, but this time for the 997S.2
I have a pair of the Carnewal, internally-modified, 'RSR' exhaust cans (together with centre silencer bypass pipes, bought separately) fitted to my car. Saving over the PSE was about £1400 and the car can also be reverted to standard in about 2 hours (including removing/refitting the rear bumper and heat shields) if it needs to go to the dealers. The mods made to the cans are genuinely invisible - they're welded back-up along the factory seams and the weld quality is every bit as good as the factory. Nice.
The sound is louder/deeper than the (ridiculously quiet) standard 997S.2 system, whilst still sounding like a 'proper Porsche' - i.e. it has that characteristic Porsche sound that's often missing with aftermarket exhausts. The overall volume is about the same as the PSE and there is no drone whatsoever in the cabin. In fact, the slight resonance you get with PDK cars at motorway speeds is now gone, so it's even less intrusive than the standard exhaust at part throttle.
Even better, taking away the two tight, 180-degree bends (they're inside the standard, centre silencer) and replacing them with almost straight pipes adds about 10BHP to the equation and removes about 10lbs of weight from the rearmost part of the car.
All-round, an excellent buy and thoroughly recommended.
