997S manual - does the rev limiter work when clutch is fully depressed?
Discussion
Hi guys I was having a bit of a blast in the 997 last night and whilst heel toeing from 3rd to 2nd I was a bit lead footed on the gas pedal and revved the engine a little too hard (over 7000 rpm I think)
I was just curious is it possible to overrev the engine if the clutch is fully depressed or does the rev limiter work the same as if the car was in gear?

Don't take this as gospel...
An overrev would imo be when the engine is forced into going over the red line as a consequence of the speed and gear selection. The rev limiter (which is electronic anyway) would function while the clutch is in but since the engine is disengaged I can't see how it would go past the rev limiter.
Bouncing off the limiter would still likely register in Rev Range 1-2 though, which people colloquially call "overrevs".

It will work in the same way as it would if it were in gear. I am pretty sure the limiter will not "know" if the car is in gear or not. Bumping into the limiter on the way up is nothing to worry about when it hasn't been "forced" by the speed of the wheels in too low a gear as mentioned above.

I don't know for sure, but would imagine that it would work the same else it would cut the engine earlier, as less mass to spin up, therefore earlier cut to ensure no overrev!
We had this with a race bike, would never rev to where it was supposed to when we shorted the clutch switch to enable starting without all the extra gubbins. It also ran a flatter engine map!

Geez what a bunch of clowns, I guess the fact that I mentioned I have boned so many (mainly hot) young women has wound some of you up somewhat lol.
One point worth mentioning, very rarely does having a nice car make any difference when trying to get a hot lady to spread em wide - which will explain why the closest many of you hero's have got to groupie love is getting a 2 second glance from a pretty lady whilst driving past in your Porsche thinking your the dogs b

ksHe doesn't need to keep count himself.
Every time he adds a poor victim to his list of conquests, he overrevs his 997 Gen 1 (with the dropping windows and engine warning light problems). That way, the OPC's can let him know the number of overrevs / conquests.
Pretty clever way of outsourcing the 'notch count' really.
