Finally found a Cayman R after much deliberation between CR and Spyder, then losing a CR I wanted when I had to cancel unexpectedly.

This one is everything I wanted with some extra bits I didn't expect, but will help with residuals in the future (sad thinking of those already!).

Haven't even seen the car yet but assured it is absolutely mint so bought on that basis, pre-registered by the dealer and used by the general manager as a daily communute, might have paid a little more than I wanted, but new ones of these seem to be selling fast these days.

Will be picking up tomorrow on a 400 mile round trip!

So excited!!!

Shame you didn't go with a spyder..... Only messing. Been reading your on off search and I'm sure this will be what you're after.

Pic looks good, well done.

well done got there in the end.although i have a spyder i think you made a wise choice not having a garage thats the same move i would have made if no garage.yes the spyder is perfectly ok outside but after having a boxster outside for 5 years i would never buy a cab. without a garage again.nothing to do with the roof more to do with foxes, cats and toerags

Yeah, it was a tough decision, I've always loved the Spyder, think it is possibly the best looking car in the world...with the roof down, but just because it will be living outside, the Cayman R is a smarter choice and still think they are rare and unique enough to stand out from the crowd in years to come.

Respect to my o/h for giving up her pride and joy as a part ex...plus two cancelled hair appointments biggrin

Not easy round here, plus live in secure development, so would mean taking the car away and probably wouldn't use as much. I don't want it to be a garage queen.

An OPC dealer, won't say which one until I have it signed. It has been available a while but discounted it from my search purely because it was so new and out of my price range, but I built a relationship with them and put in an incredibly cheeky offer and they accepted...also got a experience day thrown in which I'm looking forward to aswell biggrin

Excellent! I'm the same way with these things, so no worries. I thought the experience days were offered by Porsche directly, not the dealership? Or do you have 2 days? Anyway, all good. I still haven't had the call for my experience day frown

Congrats Ian. With no garage the CR is a safer bet, and re the 1-series-M... i think you made the right choice going with Porsche. Enjoy muchly!

In both instances where I've been buying, I've asked the dealer and they've been happy to supply; but maybe it is because in both instances they were dealer owned cars so had it spare? Saying that, on the last deal they were getting me one for the missus too.

2 days?

I think most will say that maybe I should be in the nut-house with this purchase, but ah well, only live once and all that!

1M was a serious option as a more 'every purpose' car but the theft risk especially with the key issue put me off even going to try one.

Been told my CR has a tracker and costs £200/year to subscribe...don't think I'll bother, I'd prefer not to get the car back should the worst happen, plus it only really benefits insurance companies, they hardly give you £200 discount on your premium!!!

Just one thing in case anyone knows, the car comes with guard protectors on the rear arch against stone chips, but being a white car, they look quite yellow. Do they come off easily enough without damage the paintwork?

Great buy well done, mine has a tracker but did not bother with it as insurance was only £20 less.

Get GAP insurance as well to make up any difference should the worst happen, they will want £600 for it but will barter, tell them you can get it from ala insurance which will cost about £170, i got mine for £220 with a full tank of juice!

If you want to discuss let me know and i can let you have my mob no.

Enjoy the experience of buying a great car.

It might have VTS then? Make sure you get both the transponders, and the paperwork etc. Personally, i would find an insurance company that doesn't require you to activate it though.

re the stone guards, if they are yellow-tinged, just ask the OPC to change them. Unfortunately they do tinge very quickly, especially if they / you apply cheap tyre dressing!

I doubt there will be the time tomorrow, is it something that would be included in the warranty that I can get a more local OPC to replace at a later date?

All I meant was that did the dealership organise 2 days for you with respect to the experience? The reason is that I thought that Porsche GB automatically offer a PEC day with every new purchase, i.e. It's not something that you should need to negotiate unless the car isn't new. However, if you got a 2nd day, then that would be something in addition to the normal practice. It's not a big deal, I was just wondering.

PEC day was a lot of fun and is equivalent of a warm-up day from PEC, which costs £500 (IIRC) so is well worth it!

Anyway have fun tomorrow, look forward to seeing the pics!

Better to arm vts and get your car back IMO.

Car will be driven and stored to see if it's got a tracker, if it has you just get your car back.

If its stolen you will have no car for 6 months and a fight about what is is worth.

Is that Spyder the black one? I took a good look at that one 2ce. 2nd time wasn't so impressed with the deal but it's undoubtedly a lovely car. TBH I was very surprised that they didn't come down a fair bit in price. Don't really understand why it hasn't sold, must be the red interior!

Have you tried getting a new car once one has been stolen ?

It does not happen over night and is a right pain in the arse maybe leaving you with no car for months on end.
