Is there a website or is someone able to pull the option codes for a vehicle from the chassis number? I remember being able to do this with my old Mercedes.

Have a look on Renntech - they have a VIN lookup that should at least point you in the right direction. It may be part of their contributors area (which you beome after a minor donation).

There were quite a few about when I was buying (18 months ago), but for some reason they seem to have all disappeared...

Is this a car you are looking to buy?

Ask the seller to read the codes from the underbonnet label, or if that has faded (as they often are), from the duplicate label in the service booklet.

If you can get the codes, translating them is fairly easy.

Rads and Mafs are parts that are quite prone to failure, but if the car you're looking at hasn't had them done yet at 103k, that isn't cause for concern - the owner might just have been lucky. I would expect to see suspension arms having been changed at some point.

I suggest you look at PH member Rockster's posts as he has written some very detailed and informative posts about what to look for in a 996t.
ETA - link

The main think that Darren from RSJ stressed in the Evo buyers guide for the 996t is to look for accident damage, as these are very quick cars, but generally speaking fairly bulletproof mechanically.
