OK - have searched and found just about every other combination of fault except mine.

My car is a 2000 996 Turbo:

- Neither the windscreen washers nor the headlight washers are working.
- I have checked fuses C6 & C9 (both 25A) and they're good*
- The water tank is full
- I cannot hear any motors working when the washer lever is pushed or pulled
- When the washer lever is pulled (windscreen) the wipers work, but no other action
- When the washer lever is pushed (headlights) no sign of action at all, no popping up of headlight washers

  • The fuse diagram doesn't identify these as the relevant fuses, but I picked C6 & C9 from a forum somewhere
I have had the left wheel off and looked at the tank. I can't easily identify the parts, but there's an electrical connection of 2 wires. When I put a multimeter on this connection, there's 1-2v across teh connections and I think it may go to 0v when the lever is pushed, but definitely no 12v across the terminals.

Any ideas?

If it was an older car I would say the pump has gone and this is a nice cheap and easy fix. Being modern it probably isn't, sorry that doesn't help.

If you can get to the pump it's worth trying to power it up (check how - I've no idea) with something like some wire and a static battery. If it works I'd look at the stalk - might be worth spraying some electrical contact cleaner into it anyway, can't do any harm (but careful not to make a mess when you spray).

Thanks guys - I think (from Googling) that there's 2 pumps, one for the headlights and one for the windscreen washers. It would be unlikely that both went at the same time.

Also, wouldn't the headlight chrome mushroom washer thingies still come up if it was just the pump?

I would be very happy to be proved wrong on all of this.

Cheers
