“We would do no good to the brand if we were to lose traditional Porsche customers”
No, let's build 2 SUVs and a bloated 4 seater to protect our traditional brand values. Utter, utter bollix. I don't mind them widening the range to include non-sports cars, but when they spout nonsense like this it makes me despair.“We would do no good to the brand if we were to lose traditional Porsche customers”
Quite, more like the profit margin ain't big enough and the Chinese / Americans won't buy it by the ship load.

That's a pity IMO.
A well sorted "replacement" for the 944/968 should be welcomed.
They were epic and still have a following.
They are still building the 944/968 four-seater A well sorted "replacement" for the 944/968 should be welcomed.

They only cancelled the "little b
d" replacement. If they slap the new V8 engine out of the cayenne into said 944/968, it could be magical.

As said by Carl, how can they be concerned about losing customers wh ocare about the brand if iconic cars like the 550 were a 4-cylinder? I think most enthusiasts would be less concerned about 4 cylinders then they would/are about half the range not being a sports cars what with another SUV being added to the range. I get these vehicles are needed to maintain overall profits but don't see what is wrong with slotting something more traditional below the Boxster/Cayman.

That's good news as it may mean other brands in the group will get it, Audi or VW. Possibly at a lower price point too and with a proper network of dealers who may not try and scam their customers.
A very good point. Something Porsche engineered with a VW price tag would be a good combination IMHO.That said, I don't understand the objection to a lower priced model with a Porsche badge. We're not talking about a re-hashed Toyota iQ here, but rather something that could bring the brand's values to the Elise market. If that's really such a problem you could always claim you bought it for the au pair...
This talk of a new, baby Porsche has reminded me of an old magazine article I remember from the dim and distant past (Late 80's). I think it was in Performance Car magazine (or could have been Car) and was titled "The cheap sportscar Porsche must build"
I don't think I have the magazine any more and can't remember what the spy shots looked like but it seems to be too long ago for it to have been the Boxster and the only "new" car around that time was the 968?
