Hi,
Does anyone have any recommendations for a trolley jack for a 996 GT3? The one I used for the Cayman won't go under the sills of the GT3.
Thanks
Jack

I use one like this on my 996s http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/... Maybe it'll do the GT3. Have a measure.

I use that one at the track as its light weight but use a similar Michelin low profile but more heavy duty in the garage. They fit under mine ok.

I use one of those as well. They fit under a GT3, even a lowered one.

Two strategically placed pieces of timber (one under each wheel on the same side) will allow you to use pretty much any trolley jack you like depending upon how thick the timber is. I have some ply just over an inch thick which works a treat.

Those are ok but do regularly check all the bolts as they often come loose, and be careful to make sure that you don't subject it to any load that's not directly vertically downwards on the pad (any sideways load and it will start to bend).

Costco did an Arcan aluminium jack that is much more heavy duty and a bargain at only £80+VAT but they weren't in stock last time I was there - it's very similar to a Sealey one which is circa £150.

I've got 2 of these low profile aluminium jacks and to be honest neither are much cop. All pretty anodising but leaky seals...

To be honest, lifting the rear of any 996 is quite an unstable load as it tends to pivot on the 2 opposite corners when only using 1 jacking point.

I bought 2 of the Machine Mart lightweight alloy racing jacks when they had a sale on. Its far more stable to lift all of one side or all of one end using 2 of these low entry height jacks together.

I just googled "arcan jack" and this PH thread came up, which should be pretty useful:

I'm sure it's a great bit of kit but I wouldn't fancy lifting it into a car or van regularly with only one hand (there's no handles on it for a start). smile

I've got two hands.. i also employ staff for such tasks as lifting.

This jack is a workshop jack. I have a custom modified vintage Volvo jack that lives in the gt3 for the on tour emergencies...

I normally have the full use of both hands but sadly not at present (came off a motorbike 2.5 weeks ago) - which is why I wasn't racing my new car at Brands Hatch yesterday :crying: We did take it there though and it was tested on Friday. The other car went from 9th in the second race to take the win - a briliant result and a cracking drive. I hope to be out at Oulton on 2nd June though.

I have one of those arcan alloy jacks and its been pretty good in the 6 or 7 years I've had it so far. Very good value for money.

I fully appreciate you get what you pay for, but I've been lifting my 1300 kg track Evo for the last 3 years on a £30 Halfrauds special without any problems.
