987 - Chop in before or after maintenance?
Discussion
Shucks. I was hoping to get another six months (summer!) out of the car, but I guess with the release of the new Cayman around the corner this may not be a bad time to let go...
I'm just really attached to the car. Can't think of anything else I would want right now....
EDIT: It's a fully loaded '08 Design Edition 1 with just over 29k on the clock, what do you think I should expect from the OPC??

I'll stick my neck out and say about 22-23k as a starting offer - purely a guess, but I'd say that'll retail at about 28-30k?
That sounds pretty accurate, it's pretty much the ballpark for what I was offered provisionally for mine, which is a regular 08 CS but I have got PSE and Aerokit (no PASM though). It's a tough one - I took the easy route with an early Boxster S though my list included frt brakes, clutch, major service, rear tyres & front coffin arms! If the car is as mint as you say (except for the work mentioned) I'd suggest pricing the parts up with the OPC parts dept (I can get 20% off without trying for example) & find a good local garage to fit the bits. If the car isnt going to be p/ex at OPC, try Euro Carparts for the brake parts - a friend had a pair of frt discs/pads etc for under £200 on a promo & paid a local garage £40 to fit them.
If you shop around for your tyres online & aren't choosy about which N rated tyres you have there are some deals around. I bet if you got the work done locally & sold it privately, you'd get your money back (assuming you are happy to sell privately?)especially if the sun ever comes out & you use the PH web! Good luck with the decision

I'd say you're about bang on too.... the car's got PSE and all the toys. They had an '07 DE1 in group up for 29k a couple of months ago, but no PSE etc. Do you think those margins are just something to swallow or shall I drive a hard bargain?
I've got a target price in my head somewhere between 24-25k - realistic??
A lot depends on what you're trying to get into I reckon - if it's a car with a big margin (take a look at a pre-owned 991 at Mayfair Porsche for £97k!), you'll be able to pull in 24 or even 25 easily.
If, however, you're trading up to a smart gen 2 Cayman at 38k, I don't think they'll play ball. Lots of variables though - if they've got a customer on the look out for a DE1 with PSE and know they can turn it quickly you might have more joy.
When I traded a Boxster in a few years ago I got a sensible bid from RSJ via email - might be worth asking there, and at 911V just in case they can improve on it for you. Sounds a lovely car, so good luck!

Can't disagree with you there. Problem is I'm not looking to get into anything with them right now. I've just dropped 100k into a deposit on a house and need a some time to replenish the coffers.
They obviously want me in something else, hence the push to get me to take out a new Boxster tomorrow! Tbh I see myself taking the BMW keys off the Mrs for next six months and maybe getting into an ex-demo Cayman when they finally arrive. But that doesn't count for much in their eyes right now I'm sure....

Final piece of advice - keep it. Use an Indy for the brakes, Costco for the rubber, and get a warranty (if you wish) and look again in 12 months... Probably the cheapest option and you get a Porsche! The 981 Cayman won't affect Gen 1 values too badly - a solid spec Cayman will be coming in at 55k new, maybe even 60 - so lots of clear water between your car and that one. Cayman R's on the other hand...

Yeah, but I cant face all the hassle and tyre kickers. Im leaning towards getting the work done at an Indie... any recomendations in the South West?
Feel exactly the same. Was quite surprised by OPCs offer for mine, think its probably only 1.5k-2k off what I'd expect to get privately, but we'll see.Edited by Durzel on Saturday 5th May 10:02
