Sorry in advance if this has already been covered (though I can not find it)
I have bought but not yet collected a 996 my2002 the dealer has just advised me that the previous owner cannot find the sat nav disc.
Should the car come with just one disc for the communication centre ?
Is the disc easily/readily available as a replacement ? or is it more complex than that ?
many thanks if anyone can help

There is a chap in Birmingham who does replacement discs. Search Porsche Satnav on here and you'll probably find it. It will probably cost you a few quid (although much less than Porsche will charge) but his disc fools the system into thinking it's an Opel and you can then use GM satnav discs which are a fraction of the price.
Alternatively, junk the whole thing because it's rubbish and buy a decent modern system. I just replaced my PCM1 with an Alpine S900R.

The sat nav will be just as usefull without the disc as with it. The small snail who lives on the side of my garden shed is more adept at Navigating than the PCM1 Nav.
Overly harsh for attempted comedic value.Yes, it had been surpassed in terms of performance, but it is fine for the occasional use, and is a lot tidier than any aftermarket system.

The chaps at Northway knocked one up for me for £50. You can sit for 10 mins though, waiting for it to find its way, terrible! I'd put the £50 towards a tomtom, everything else works fine without it.
Thanks for all the replies,It appears that it is not that great,I was more concerned that the rest of the gear in the system would still works, from your replies it seems that all will be ok.I like the idea of still using the monitor with a usable nav disc, possibley the idea on an earlier reply that it could be one other than a Porsche one
