Hi I am in the advance stages of looking for a 997 3.8. Have seen a few that I really like but keep going back to one at a porsche garage in Edinburgh.love the car,the wheels and the colour.my main concern is its price and lack of extras.i am wondering if not having sports exhaust ,sports chrono and only a single cd is this worth the money.07 plate silver 911 £40 k 32000 miles.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.any info at all I would be very happy thanks

Sports chrono only if buying tip
PSE definately best option imo but can be retrofitted
Single CD depends how you listen to your music

Prices at OPC have gone up, trying and get the PSE thrown in

Assuming my other purchase comes off you could probably have mine for that - atlas grey, C4S, has PSE, 18k miles and 18 months warranty. Pm me if you might be interested. I had the PSE retrofitted, cost about 2k thanks to a group by on here organised by all2ofme. Best thing I have done.

Seems v.expensive. At circa £35k it would be a reasonable buy. Anyhing more wouldn't bother as there's beautiful turbos for not much more. Not that you want a turbo but there is a stunning silver 997 turbo at Portiacraft with similar miles for £45k which makes the 997 3.8 you are looking at seem v.expensive. In the trade i bet the same OPC wouldn't offer more than £30k ish for the car you're looking to purchase

Agreed, trade would offer even less.

Sounds a little expensive to me.
I got mine a couple of months ago for just less than 40k.

997 4S, 57 plate 20500 miles, Meteor grey, turbo wheels, sports exhaust, cruise, heated electric memory seats, multi function steering wheel,
rain sensor wipers, auto dimming mirrors, full leather pack, Bose sound.....no cd multi-changer, tyre pressure monitoring system, tracker, plus all the usual Porsche stuff etc !

Car had just had major OPC service ( plugs, brake fluid change etc ).
OPC also had fitted four new Bridgesone tyres total cost £3000.
Also came with 10 months remaining Porsche extended warranty.

A good buy in my opinion. Car was immaculate no wheel kerbing or any body marks whatsoever.
Hope this helps and gives you an idea what is available at this price.
Remember looking is half the fun...good luck happy hunting.
Dave

PSE = Porsche Sports Exhaust

Great option - totally transforms the sound of the car. Single CD is no major issue - you'd be listening to the PSE anyway.

Like the rest of the responses, this does sound pretty expensive. There are lots of 997s out there… whilst the 2 year Porsche warranty is *really* worth having, I suspect you could factor in circa £3k for this to be added to a non-OPC (Official Porsche Centre) car.

Good hunting!

Sorry to be a pain but this quest is taking over my life at the moment.i am very worried about buying one and it goes bang and I can't afford to repair it. Hence why the warranty really appeals do you think I could get more off this car?. The salesman said they now have to perform a pressure test on the engine? Take it this is to check for bore scoring. Had new clutch fitted but they never replaced rms. said it didn't need it. Would u not replace it anyway seen as the gearbox was out. The rep sounds ok but not sure if he's trying the sales patter.just wish they could be straight with me.

Just offer £35k on the basis you'll buy the car today. That normally gets them going. There are 1000s of these cars for sale hence buyers market

A pressure test checks compression and leakage and whilst it could detect bore scoring, it would have to be to an advanced stage for this to be picked up. If this were to be the case, then other symptoms such as oil burning and engine tapping noises would more than likely be evident. A boroscope is the best check for bore scoring.

Sounds like the car has shown range 4 or above over-revs

It's not a great spec car for £40k tbh. 15% higher budget and you could be in a gen2 car - more power, no RMS/IMS issues.
