Hi Folks,

Well, Friday 13th rang true today as a taxi driver pulled out of a junction right into the side of my 996 911. I've only had the car a few weeks, its my first 911 and I'm absolutely gutted.

I Wont know more until Monday, I was wondering anyone could help with the following:

- Looking at the photos below, do you think they will repair it or write it off?
- What value should I expect for a settlement if the car was to be written off?

The car is a November 1999, Carrera 2, Nice spec with hard back seats, GT3 alloys, and has a Hartec engine costing near £7k from november 2011. The car is in immaculate condition having looked at numerous other cars beforehand which were not as good.

Pics:

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Keith

Absolutely gutted for you, looks like a nice car (before the accident). As only 2 panels are involved (and little enough damage not to break any glass), I would have thought that would be repairable.

Thanks all.

Just to add, the B pillar is pushed in and the interior quater panel has popped off. I'm assuming because this is structural that the car will be written off?

I would prefer it to be written off, I don't feel comfortable with the level of damage and would lose all heart in the car frown

Imo that'll be a definite write off. Wouldn't it require pretty much a whole back end replacement?

Looks like it needs the B pillar pulled, its kinked at the back of the quarter. Needs a quarter panel, door, sill, inner quarter, inner sill.

That was a lovely example you had - I seem to recall the pics you posted up (?) and thinking it was great value motoring - gutted for you.

If it is written off, then hope you get back into another 911 soon and get to enjoy the summer.

If it is written its probably worth trying to get hold of he engine if that can be done at a reasonable cost. I'd imagine a ready market exists.

Look for similar age/spec/mileage cars in the classifieds for an indication of what they will offer. For a low speed impact then it is entirely possible that the chassis is fine, however even if that is the case your insurance company will still be looking at a £6-10k repair and they may write it off anyway.

I'm gutted as the engine, spec and condition was the reason I bought this car. I doubt I'll find it easy to find as good an example. Some of the cars I looked at previously were terrible, they were definatly worth the 12-13k asking price. Mine is exceptional and I only hope I can get my money back.

Your insurance co will not give a hoot re condition - therefore will pay market-value. You really need someone who can argue your corner, fast. The link i gave above is a regular on here. He and his company ensured my write-off was written off at TOP book, and my losses etc recouped in full. Hassle free.

Had a similar experience 15 years ago with a Celica GT4 I almost wrote off - had to get lots of adverts for similar spec / similar condition cars to justify the price over a "standard" car. In the end it was worth it.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who'd like to buy the engine, so don't let that get scrapped.

I agree with phooey. Although accident management consultants sometimes get a bad press if it is genuinely not your fault they can be worth their weight in gold. When assessing a write off, car hire costs are very relevant, for example as a replacement vehicle for the duration can be very expensive. However, if you have even a scintilla of doubt as to where the blame lies then be very very careful with credit hire. I am gutted for you. Good luck with everything. Hope it all gets sorted.

Sorry about your luck buddy.

In case you're shy about accident claims managemet companies, they only exist at all because of shysters in inscos being big on collection and small on payout.

Depending on how much they give it might be worth buying it back, removing everything and weighing in the shell. That way you could either buy one that is really cheap and replace the components on it with those from yours or sell the parts off and buy something else.

Dam shame about it, looked like a stunning car.

As someone who had his p & j stolen after only a week of ownership I know the 'sick in the pit of the stomach' feeling. Sorry it had to happen to you.
