hi - just wondering what folks use to clean their interiors eg dashboard etc? can't quite make up mind whether to use leather cleaning or vinyl cleaning products?

My Boxster still has the shine on the dash from the pre-purchase valet the dealer did. The reflection in the windscreen is a pain in the proverbial on sunny days - any recommendations for something that looks nice but leaves a vaguely matt finish?!

Have a look here. Just don't go to detailingworld.com unless you are OCD!

I always use Liquid Leather, that leaves a nice satin sheen on the leather.

baby wipes are excellent for cleaning leather; good enough for a baby's skin, good enough for a leather dash!

Halfords have a good range of leather foods .After you have rubbed in the moisturiser slap the perforated centres hard so you don't get a build up of cream in the small holes.

How about cleaning up the dash and rear seat panels on a 1970 car?

If everything is leather covered, I would use a leather cleaner and feeder, I have the swissvax stuff and seems to do a nice job but is almost certainly way over priced. Talk to one of the leather restorers/upholsterers and they will point you in the direction of a more reasonable product.

If it is plastic, then I use swissvax plastic cleaner which seems to do a nice job without going shinny.

Same as the others - if you have the full leather - it's worth using a leather cleaner / cream. Personally I like the Zymol products as they aren't too shiny, but I've also used Conolly "Hide Food" in the past and excepting that it smells of dead animals it produces great results!

I've just done the vinyl dash and door panels on my 964. Cleaned with "Flash with Fabreze" all purpose cleaner, followed by Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber Protector.

Flash did an excellent job of removing a couple of stubborn stains, and the Autoglym gave it an even, slightly satin, sheen, without being shiny.

I like the LTT leather care products

A good hoover with a long thin nozzle and a little brush for getting at any dusty bits

Glass cleaner

Comes up a treat

Porsche leather is 'pigment coated', so the need for feeding the leather stopped when the animal gave up it's hide! Most conditioning products are effectively just a way of delivering water to keep the leather hydrated (it is still porous, and can eventually dry out, but any sign of natural oils etc that a feed product claims to replace we're removed at the tannery during the manufacturing process). For this reason, modern leather benefits from a good cleaner, which the Swissvax leather cleaner is, and a protector/maintaining product, which Leather Milk isn't.

LTT products are very good, they are a true leather specialist. They have an excellent product called Auto Maintain which is largely all you'd ever need. It cleans, hydrates and protects the leather in one go.
