More questions!

Have found a 996 which has had lots of work done, as you would expect at the mileage.

However, the only glitch is that he says the A/C is not working. He says he has not had it diagnosed, but suspects that it just needs a re gas.

Are there any "usual" failings for the 996 air con?

Its a good deal and I am wondering if its worth the risk.

Thanks all.

You would be very fortunate if it is only a re-gas, more likely to need replacement hoses as they deteriorate over time. The history file for my GT3 suggests it cost c£500k to sort out the air-con

I agree - its likely to be a compressor issue - budget 750 from a specialist

Maybe "just" a corroded/ holed condensor? Still north of £500 to fix tho'

This is what the seller has said regarding the A/C:

"All heater controls and blower motors are working fine and the air con was working, its just not getting cold now. I have only done a few hundred miles over the last year and hadn't noticed, so couldn't tell you if it suddenly stopped working or if it gradually got worse."

Hmmmm.

If all it needs is a regass then perhaps ask the owner to nip round to Kwikfit. It will cost hime about 50 notes.
