I have read a lot about PH's using thier prok for family duties, but I am looking for real life experance of kids in a 996 cab.

TBH currently has a saab cab & kids can get in on their own and do their own belts up (9&5) but I feel it might be a bit tight for both of them in the back of 996.

I was thinking as this would be a second car, I have Cayenne for main family duties the school run could work with 9 year old in front seat pulled forward leaving the 5 year old in the back with a bit more leg room. Weekends it could be dad in front with no one else in any seat.

Does anyone use their cab like this & what are the flaws in this great plan :-)

Thanks.

Your school run plan would work for space as there is plenty of legroom for the 5 year-old once you pull the front seat forward. However, my 2002 MY cab's back seat backrests are near vertical (are yours the same?) - don't know how comfortable he would find it over any distance.

There have been other threads on here about rear seat room in a 996. I would get my son to try it out for you but he is 24 and drives a Boxster......

I have two kids aged 8 and 7. I have them swap as to who sits in the front e.g. one on the way there and one on the way back otherwise they moan about preferential treatment! They sit in tandem as you suggest or they can squeeze in the back if the wife is in the front. I am 6' 3" and have to move the seat quite far forward to give enough space. I chose a tip for exactly this reason.

When the 8 year old who is quite tall sits in the back she does it without the booster seat. The 7 year old who is also tall still requires the booster when in the back.

It is workable as the car only gets used like this at the weekends when we are having a bit of fun / going to football / parties etc. One note though is that I have hard backed sports seats so just have to watch any heavy braking as there is not a huge amount of room in the back.

They struggle doing journeys more than 1.5 hrs due to the upright nature of the seats in the cab.

I've used mine to take my niece & nephew to school when they've been staying over, they're 16 & 13.
They fit fine in tandem, the biggest issue was instructing the niece on how to get in & out in a ladylike manner whilst wearing a belt for a skirt.

And no, I don't have any pics before you ask.

Not the best comparison but I have recently bought a 997 c2s and my chldren 6 and 10 have plenty of room.....however we are a vertically challenged bunch....me being a rather lofty 5'6 and my wife 5'2.

I would add sub 5'4 would be fine for longish journeys as its the headroom that is restrictive more than the legroom......which given your desire for a soft top should make it less restrictive for you.
