Nothing fancy, just good quality ones with a GB logo that will not delaminate.

OPC ones seem poor and the local accessory shop wants to put its name in big letters at the bottom.

I am guessing good ones available online.

Halfords.

Had them on my old 996 - the Halfords logo on the bottom is so small and holographic that it can hardly be seen, even close up.

I have Halfords ones on my car at the moment, but the rear one has begun delaminating. I took it back to them to do again and they have made another plate but the font is slightly different, which annoys me. I COULD go back to them again but each time I go into Halfords a little part of me dies.

+1 for Flashplates (link above).
Good quality and unbeatable price.
Edited to say that they arrived next day too!

Thanks SJ. What does that script on the bottom say? If it's "Supa Platez" or somesuch it is not what I am looking for. Our local shop did me some for my new (to me) 997 that said, "Trent Motor Accessories" in 10mm letters. I asked for them to be done again without and they made me sign a "show plates disclaimer". They have since shut up shop.

They are not legal plates, so may not have the usual guff on them.

There was a CLK DTM at the supercar meet on Sunday at Donnington - it had the best style of (legal) plates i have seen on a car. They were plastic, but the letters and numbers were raised rather than flat and laminated. They looked proper quality. Anyone know the car and where the plates were from? I want to order some smile

Had the Halfords ones for two years and they were fine.

As for Internet plates - even if they're 'show' plates without the BS mark or makers postcode - it only really becomes a problem at MOT time, and even then I've seen cars pass with them on.

Phooey, I like the sound of those you saw - you best get on the case... wink

I just asked my indie (RPM Knaresborough) to get me some. Bog standard with no extras on, they have their name on but I am happy to promote them because they are top chaps.

If the car was first registered after 2000, then the company that makes the plates must put their name at the bottom as a legal requirement. Also, you should provide details of ownership of the car. This is all to try to reduce the volume of car thefts and particularly ringing.

Whilst it may not make much difference in day-to-day life, if you get pulled by the boys in blue for any reason, this will be another charge that they will level against you.

Its unlikely not having the company name on the bottom will bother anyone, Ive had mine on for over 10 years with nothing on the bottom and never had any issues at all, not MOT or the police. As long as they are standard font and not overly mis-spaced nobody pays any attention.

It wasn't them. These were made out of a moulded plastic me thinks.

What's private about it?

You appear to have a problem with me - are you a former boyfriend?

It's their name & post code - as has been said, it is a legal requirement. It's not 10mm high like your local place did though. If I remember I'll take a photo of one of the plates on my car for you later.
