Has anyone fitted their Lower Control Arms / Dogbones / Toe Links to a 997 and if so - what do you think? I can see the logic of fitting these to something hardcore like a GT3/RS but will they work on a common or garden C2S?

I like the look and the idea of additional "control" of the suspension / geometry settings, but I'm worried that (for the not insubstantial amount of money required), I'll get increased harshness and they'll be vulnerable to the potholed roads of Buckinghamshire ...

Comments appreciated!

Hi, we have fitted a lot of this equipment and have had some minor issues but overall very happy. We stock some items for 996/997 cars.

As an "early adopter" of the fully rose-jointed approach on my GT3 (which has now covered about 35K miles thus equipped), I have various bits from GMG (dogbones, rear toe steer & bump steer kit plus the WRC ARBs), Tarett (droplinks front & rear), Rennline (all 4 diagonal fork arms) and RSS (all 4 coffin arms). All the rose joints have been covered in rubber boots from first fitting and are regularly inspected for wear. The GMG stuff has been on for nearly 2 years with the Rennline, RSS & Tarett only being fitted in September 2011.

The GMG stuff is extremely well made and thus far has been no trouble at all. Still no discernible wear on any of the joints.

The Tarett stuff has been a huge disappointment quality-wise. All 4 of the rear droplink rose joints had developed wear in less than 5K miles & were replaced with NMB teflon lined joints. We'll see how they fare!

The Rennline diagonal arms seem to be holding up well so far, but have only been on for 5K miles.

The RSS inner monoballs on the rear wore out in 5K miles also & have been replace by aircraft quality bearings as they are an imperial size and apparently so are aircraft smile

I did have GMG monoballs in "standard" arms before replacement with the RSS versions and these are still going strong in a friends car. They did 30K miles in my car before being sold on so they seem to be as durable as the other GMG stuff.

To my mind, the ride quality of the car isn't too compromised by a switch to rose joints (although I also replaced the standard dampers with Moton clubsport at the same time as doing the GMG stuff so I never drove it on standard dampers with rose joints) & the payback in feedback through the chassis and decrease in tyre wear is worth it to me. Bear in mind that you will need to put boots on all the joints and also inspect them all regularly for wear; be prepared to replace them as needed and you won't be disappointed.

It will be public knowledge in the next week anyway, but we are the UK principal dealer for RSS.

We have been working with RSS over the last 6 months in the background on all their products, not just suspension related.

We supply both Chris and Mike in the UK, both of whom have been "testing" and "reporting back" on the products. During the last couple of months as a result of that testing and reporting, minor changes have been made to some of the products including LCA, front and rear toe steer etc. UK roads are a little harder on our cars compared to our USA friends. So some earlier adopters of certain products in the range may be running on an earlier version.

We are fitting buckets of these parts on both road and track focused cars. Demand is outstripping supply at the moment so that even we, as principal dealers, are now having to wait 4 weeks to get further stock from RSS. We keep a good stock level at all times.

What I would say is that RSS has responded well to constructive feedback and implemented changes on their products as necessary in quick timeframe. Chris for example has been very helpful in that process.

In terms of whether these products should be fitted only to GT variants, that is not the case. We are fitting these to NA cars with great success.

I have fitted most of the products RSS list for the 997tt and can give you alot of feedback!

In terms of comfort and handling the car IMO drives far better with the kit I have fitted, yes it is slighty more harsh here and there but overall the reward/benefits compaired to what you lose in comfort is negligible, infact I am astounded at the difference it has made.

Apart from a few small issues which RSS are willing to sort out for me which shows good cusomer service, the RSS kit fits well and the car drives superb and has complimented the biltsein damptronic kit very well.

If there is anything more specific you would like to know then please feel free to ask!

Do you know where the boots of the correct size can be purchased?
And do you use grease or any other lubricant with the rose joints, or just use the boots to protect them?

Most decent racing parts suppliers will stock them. For example, http://content.yudu.com/Library/A1vouv/TridentRaci...

They're on p38 as "rubber dust seals" although oddly you need to put 42 in the page box at the top.

Don't use any kind lubricant on a teflon-lined rose joint.

Where did you get the aircraft quality bearings from?

Matt @ Fearnsport sourced them for me so don't have specific supplier details.
