Slightly bullish title, but it's only meant to get your attention! smile

It's new car time for me, and it's really come down to 996 GT3 vs 997 GT3 vs 360 Modena.

My budget really is low 40s, so strictly speaking I shouldn't really be considering a 997 GT3, but I am.

I have driven 996 GT3s (fanfunkingtastic) and 360 Modena (quantaum leap from 355) but never a 997 GT3. I'll be heading for a drive soon enough, but before I do that I wanted to ask.

Is the high(er) miles 997 GT3 really worth the £15,000 odd premium (at minimum) over what looks to be a nice, clean 996 GT3?

Yup. That's abundantly clear and the pattern with Porsche, Ferrari etc.

Question is that is it worth the £15,000 today with the 997 left with some deprecitation to do, and the 996 having done the bulk of it.

97 GT3 is very very different to a 96 GT3. Try it and find out for yourself, its the only way.

I would say get the 6 and retain more of your money?

Looking at the classifieds, mine has dropped 12 to 14k in the last 18 months and probably won't slow down until near the 40 mark?

Doubt if in the real world there is much between them - "some" would say the SPASM on the 7 is a backwards step (they will be along later). It really depends if you can live with the looks and interior on the older car IMO?

go get a test drive in a Cayman R you might be shocked how good it is.

I'm sure it's hugely capable. Looks a bit bland for me, and not quite "special" enough.

I prefer the six. Sharper, more delicate, sweeter steering, easier to reach the limits on the road The ride is less comfy and the seven is probably faster and definitely easier to drive but otherwise the six excites me more.

And the seven has traction control and a button to make the exhaust quieter, both of which have no place in such a car.

6GT3, 7GT3 and 360 Modena aren't that special either...

If you want special you need to look at 6GT3 RS and 360CS wink

It all depends on what your definition of special is ...

996Gt3 great car, the 7 a little bit more polished and a bit better. 360 Modena lovely to look at but not as capable as the previous 2 but still quite handy.
My choice would be Ferrari for that special weekend car and the 7 for hooning and doing more than 4 or 5 k miles a year.
Either Porsche will cost a fraction of the Fezza to maintain. I speak from experience having owned all three.
That said everyone should own a Ferrari at least once. biggrin

+1

There is much less difference between a GT3 and a GT3RS than you'd imagine from looking at all the stickers. CS to Modena a little more maybe but its getting on for double the money.

7 GT3 is a better DD than a 6, probably a worse base for a track day special.

They are all brilliant.

'Special' is an entirely subjective term; someone who has only ever owned a 1.2 clio would regard driving a Cayman once a month (for example) as very special indeed.

But, as good a drive as they may be, I've persoanlly never thought of them as particularly special (and actually think they're quite ugly - sorry owners!).
