Considering a long trip to try out a 968 Clubsport - beore i go it would be handy to know if there plenty of room in one headroom wise for a lanky chap including crash hat?

Take a helmet and try it. I am 6'3 and it is tight with non sunroof CS. Depends on seat and position of course.

I'm 6.3" and had no issue in my 968CS, even on track with helmet (and mine had the sunroof).

I struggle with many sports cars but Porsche are generally not an issue (for rerference, until the 458 I couldn't fit comfortably in a Ferrari). A lot will depend on whether you are 50/50 legs torso or longer in the legs or upper body.

If you have the pukka sports seats, the cushioning is only velcroed in and normally there is a second layer of cush under your bottom.
It all removeable and adjustable.

I'm 6ft 1" and have a CS with sports seats. Fine to drive without helmet with all the pads in place. With a helmet I take out all of the padding on the seats (as mentioned, it just velcroes out) and store it behind the seats. Without the padding there is loads of headroom and the steering wheel is also much better positions as otherwise it is a bit low and I have to straddle my legs either side of it.

I don't think height of driver per see is the issue as the stock seats go back a long way and there is plenty of room back aft to mount a bucket seat. If anything being a short arse like me is more of an issue as my helmet sits pretty close to the header bar of the cage. A very tall driver may need a steering boss extender though.
