VAT qualifying = add VAT to the price as it wasn't paid when the car was new (bought for a business or something)
So it's actually 17k which isn't that cheap for a Cayman 2.7 in red
Whilst 40,000 miles a year can only be motorway so the engine and running gear & brakes etc might be fine, you'd need to do 5000 miles a year & keep it for about 10 years for the milage to look normal again
So it's not a bargain in my book

VAT qualifying doesn't mean that the purchaser has to pay 20% more for the car than the asking price. The purchaser will pay 13990 less whatever discount they can achieve. So it's actually 17k which isn't that cheap for a Cayman 2.7 in red

To a private purchaser that's the end of it, to a VAT registered purchaser someone knows what they are talking about will no doubt pop along soon and explain the distinction in more detail!
It means that if you bought it you can claim the vat back(on the screen price). You would have to be vat registered though. When you bought the car you would get a vat receipt that showed the price of the car plus vat. The car would be 11458 plus vat which would be 13750. So if you were vat registerd you could claim back 2292.

This is correct. The term means that the sale price qualifies as a goods+VAT purchase to those businesses that are eligible to claim the VAT back, so it makes not a jot of difference to all private buyers and most businesses.Check with your own advisors before buying on the basis of this list, but in general businesses that are eligible to re-claim the VAT include:
Taxi firms
Contract hire companies
Funeral directors
Rental companies
Driving experience companies
and
Anyone exporting outside of the EU
Given the limited number of used cars that are VAT qualifying, one for export that is VAT-Q tends to be worth a bit more as the buyer will be re-claiming approx 17% of the total purchase price in VAT.

That's a bargain - assuming you'll get 200k out the engine? So car costs you 13k and doing 12k per year you've got 6.25yrs left of life in it. That's 2k per year for a car that was 40k 4 years ago.worth a punt...or too many miles...??
